It could’ve been worse. It could’ve been a lot worse. When Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones was pushed out of bounds after a 40-yard run against the Carolina Panthers last night, the extent of the injury that forced him to the sideline and onto an exercise bike for the rest of the game was unknown. After undergoing an MRI today, it was determined that Felix won’t need surgery. He’ll just need a little rest and relaxation. And rehab.
OK, so that’s the good news. The bad news is one of the National Football League’s best playmakers (with a gaudy 10.1 …read more

Just as the Dallas Cowboys seemed to be getting healthy — welcoming back quarterback Tony Romo and cornerback Terrence Newman — the team announced today that rookie running back Felix Jones would miss the rest of the 2008 season with an injured toe that will require surgery. Felix justified the Cowboys drafting him 22nd overall this past April by making his presence felt immediately. In his first six NFL games, he was averaging almost nine yards/carry with three touchdowns. It’s really a crushing blow to a Dallas team who briefly enjoyed his big play ability …read more

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo appears ready to return to the starting lineup after missing the past three games with an injury to his throwing hand. Head coach Wade Phillips is optimistic his QB will be ready for Sunday night’s showdown with NFC East division rival Washington:
“He’s throwing with more zip on the ball. He looks more comfortable. He’s getting better and better in getting back to where he was.”
Translation — he’ll play. Tony’s return can’t come too soon for the desperate Cowboys whose problems really began before he was injured. But they’re certainly a …read more

Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware tied an NFL sack record by recording a sack in his 10th straight game this afternoon. But it was the only good news the Cowboys had as they were not only beaten — they were lambasted by the revived St. Louis Rams 34-14. DeMarcus finished the day with three sacks and led the Cowboys with seven tackles. Interestingly, though he now shares the NFL record, DeMarcus remains one game shy of the franchise record. The Cowboys recognize Harvey Martin’s 11-game streak from 1976-77, a run that ended five years …read more

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo fractured a finger on his throwing hand against the Arizona Cardinals yesterday and could be out for up to four weeks. Tony broke his right pinkie on the first play of a disastrous overtime for the Cowboys. They won the toss, then proceeded to go three-and-out and had a punt blocked and returned for a touchdown to lose the game. Tony had difficulty gripping the ball and throwing since the injury, but he won’t need surgery. Head coach Wade Phillips was nevertheless optimistic:
“Brad Johnson is going to be playing quarterback …read more

After all the scouting, measuring, interviewing and analyzing of player prospects over the past few months, the 2008 NFL Draft in the books. WINNERS
1.) Kansas City Chiefs – With 13 picks, the Chiefs had no choice but to succeed in this Draft and they did just that. Glenn Dorsey (LSU) was arguably the best DT …read more

NFL Draft guru Lloyd Vance (Taking it to the House) and I got together in the press box at Radio City Music Hall to compare notes on the entire first round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Here’s a recap of our thoughts.

Lloyd: This is the safest pick in the Draft. Jake is signed, sealed and delivered. What you get with Jake Long is an NFL-ready player. He should be able to contribute right away and fill a hole that’s …read more
