A year after Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor’s death, NFL players are still living scared. And with good reason. There’s an interesting article in the 11.24 Dec 01 2008 ESPN Magazine that features seven current NFL players discussing their own concerns and experiences with crime and the issue of safety in their own lives — Clinton Portis, Ben Roethlisberger, Dunta Robinson, Kevin Mawae, Derrick Brooks, Branden Albert and Fred Taylor. In the “special report,” ESPN senior writer David Fleming writes:
“When asked about their fears, players cite the same frightening flashpoints: New Year’s Day 2007, when …read more

The Oakland Raiders continue to be involved in the unfathomable. After giving cornerback DeAngelo Hall his walking papers and $8 million for eight games, the team will now be without receiver Javon Walker who will have season-ending surgery on his ankle after eight games. He walks limps away with $13 million even though he had a colossally disappointing 15 catches for 196 yards and one touchdown during that time. Unbelievable.

Therefore, while I was not anticipating the team releasing their biggest offseason acquisition, they are, in fact, ready to give cornerback DeAngelo Hall his walking papers. And I’m not shocked. The whole situation was supposed to hit the fan today, but the Raiders are apparently putting it off until tomorrow for some reason.
If DeAngelo is cut (and all signs are pointing to exactly that happening), he will have made $8 million for his eight games with the Raiders. Yeah, I know. As …read more

Despite being robbed and beaten unconscious in Las Vegas just a couple days ago, Oakland Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker is out of the hospital and should be ready for training camp. Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin said today:
“The information that I have is he’s going to be fine. Training camp won’t be an issue.”
Good thing because Oakland shelled out $55 million for Javon’s services over the next six years. Javon suffered a concussion and facial injuries, but he’s very lucky it wasn’t a lot worse. This is why a lot of players …read more

It’s been a big day in Big D. Shortly after it was announced that Dallas Cowboys cornerback Pacman Jones had received limited reinstatement from Commissioner Roger Goodell, wide receiver Terrell Owens received a four-year, $34 million contract extension from the team. The $27 million he’s going to make over the next three seasons ranks him alongside Randy Moss, Javon Walker and Larry Fitzgerald as one of the highest paid wide receivers in the NFL. T.O. will receive a total of $13 million guaranteed. He is now under contract through 2011.
This was an issue …read more
