What Was Dick Jauron Thinking?

National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast
After starting this season with a very promising 5-1 record, the Buffalo Bills have gone 1-7 since and will fail to make the playoffs for the 9th consecutive year. Head coach Dick Jauron, while remaining one of my favorites among NFL coaches, seemed to be begging to be fired after an unfathomable call on second-and-five at their own 22-yard-line with just over two minutes to play and the Bills just trying to burn clock to ice a win over the N.Y. Jets. I almost couldn’t believe my eyes when after four successful running plays, quarterback …read more

J.P. Losman Will Start For Buffalo Bills

J.P. Losman Will Start For Buffalo Bills

National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast
In a sense, the Buffalo Bills’ postseason starts Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. The Bills simply can’t lose another game if they want to get to the real playoffs in January, so it’s do-or-die from here on out. And with a 6-6 record twelve games into this 2008 season, Bills quarterback J.P. Losman will return to the starting lineup. It’s a role he felt never should’ve been taken from him in the first place. And now he has the chance to take it back:
“I want these guys to experience winning. I want to experience winning. …read more

Vince Wilfork Will Be Fined, Not Suspended

National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast
After a heart-to-heart with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about a hit on Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, it was announced today that New England Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork will not be suspended by the league. But he will be fined. We’ll have to wait until Friday to find out the exact amount, but Vince seemed pretty satisfied with the outcome:
“I think both sides were happy. He got a chance to hear my side of my story of how I approach the game. I got a chance to hear what he had to say about …read more

Lee Evans Gets Contract Extension

National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast
Buffalo Bills receiver Lee Evans signed a long-awaited four-year, $37.25 million contract extension with the team today. The deal includes $18.25 million worth of guarantees. He will make $27 million over the first three years of the deal, including this year. Lee is now is under contract through 2012:
“I’m thrilled. It all just kind of happens at one time. I’m thrilled about it. It’s a great day. Working with these guys over a long period of time has been tough, but the communication has been there and we finally got it done. So I couldn’t …read more

Buffalo Bills Return to Trent Edwards at QB, J.P. Losman Demoted After Loss

Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL

Buffalo Bills head coach Dick Jauron has named Trent Edwards the starting QB — again. After J.P. Losman’s three turnover game (two INTs and a fumble) in a 36-14 loss against Jacksonville this past weekend, it wasn’t a difficult decision. In fact, the past three games have seen inconsistent play at the quarterback position, thus prompting the change. In his press conference yesterday, Coach Jauron said:
“In terms of our quarterbacks, we’ll make the switch and Trent will be our starter. We fully understand that it’s not only J.P. That’s not the only reason …read more

Bills Loss Gives Patriots AFC East Title

Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL
The Buffalo Bills are a different team without Marshawn Lynch. They’re also a different team without consistent play at the quarterback position. Both were missing this afternoon as the Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Bills 36-14. The score was really not indicative of the game. The Bills had the ball with six minutes and change and a chance to tie, but you simply can’t turn the ball over three times on the road against a good football team (the Jags are now 8-3) and expect to have any chance of winning the game.

No Such Thing as an Ugly Win, Bills Beat Winless Dolphins For Fourth Straight Victory

Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL
One thing’s for sure in the National Football League. There is no such thing as an ugly win. The Buffalo Bills can attest to that after a frustrating but eventually exhilarating afternoon in South Florida today, beating the (still) winless Miami Dolphins 13-10 on kicker Rian Lindell’s late 34-yard field goal. There’s also no such thing as a sure thing. On paper, even at 4-4 the Bills looked like decided favorites over an 0-8 team. Not so fast. The Dolphins might be one of the best 0-9 teams in the history of the …read more

Adversity Introduces Us To Ourselves: New Era Cap Honors Buffalo Bills Kevin Everett

Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL
When Buffalo Bills TE Kevin Everett went down with a potentially life-threatening, temporarily paralyzing spinal cord injury on a special teams play in the team’s first game of this 2007 season against Denver, it left not only the Western New York community but the entire country at attention on his road to recovery. Not long after that opening game, Buffalo-based New Era Cap Company, the largest sports-licensed headwear company in the world, created the “KE85″ cap in Kevin’s honor. New Era Corporate Communications Manager Dana Marciniak gave me all the details.

Trent Edwards Remains Starting QB for Bills

Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL
Buffalo Bills head coach Dick Jauron will announce today that rookie quarterback Trent Edwards will retain his role as the team’s starting QB even though J.P. Losman is fully recovered from a sprained knee and is healthy and able to play. I’ll be in the press box Sunday when the Bills host the Baltimore Ravens. Trent will have his work cut out for him against the NFL’s 4th best defense. The Ravens are especially tough against the run (66.7 ypg), so Trent will have to make some big throws in this game. He’s …read more

Bills Enter Bye Week With QB Questions

Blogging the National Football League, Blogging the NFL
Just a few days removed from their heartbreaking Monday Night Football loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the Buffalo Bills are wondering who their starting quarterback will be when they return to action October 21 against the Baltimore Ravens. Starting QB J.P. Losman suffered a sprained knee against the New England Patriots in the team’s third game of the season and rookie QB Trent Edwards has filled in admirably. But now that J.P. is back practicing with the team, the Bills have to make a decision.
Ask head coach Dick Jauron who the starting QB …read more
