This offseason, we haven’t heard a word from Chad and suddenly there are rumblings that he could be headed out of town — maybe to the Philadelphia Eagles.

That’s what ESPN’s Michael Smith was saying on NFL Live today:

Last offseason, Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad <s>Ocho Cinco</s> Johnson was begging and pleading (or was he demanding?) to be traded. This offseason, we haven’t heard a word from Chad and suddenly there are rumblings that he could be headed out of town — maybe to the Philadelphia Eagles.

That’s what ESPN’s Michael Smith was saying on NFL Live today:

“I am hearing there is interest in Chad Johnson. Now there’s been some back and forth as to whether or not he is officially on the market. I think everybody in Cincinnati has signed off on moving Chad except for owner Mike Brown. The Eagles could be in the picture. They have two first-round picks. They need a receiver.”

Who doesn’t need a receiver? This is all speculation and hearsay at this point. Nothing official has come out of Cincinnati saying that Chad is “on the market.” And Chad, as I already mentioned, hasn’t said a word. But maybe if he continues to be on his best behavior, he might just get his wish — albeit a year later — to find employment with another team.

Sometimes I think the Bengals would be better off without him, much like the Cowboys should be better off without Terrell Owens. Both are very good receivers so that doesn’t seem to make sense on paper. But as far as team chemistry is concerned, it was a good move for Dallas to cut ties with T.O. And it would be a good idea for the Bengals to cut the cord with Chad. A fresh start is just what he needs and the Bengals, in turn, can go about their business of finding players that embrace the team-first concept.

National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast

Some Cincinnati Bengals fans have assembled the Web site WhoDeyRevolution.com “in this time of perpetual Cincinnati Bengals incompetence and futility, with zero playoff wins in the seventeen seasons since the WhoDeyRevolution Godfather, Paul Brown, passed away in 1991 and handed the team to his fortunate son, the Despot, Mike Brown.” They’ve got billboards up around town as part of a “Project Mayhem” plan. And their mission statement is pretty clear:

“We, the members of the Who Dey Revolution, in our fervent dedication to the Cincinnati Bengals and fanatical desire to transform our hometown team into perpetual Super Bowl contenders, call for a popular revolution of fans to demand comprehensive reform to the managerial decisions and approach of Cincinnati Bengals ownership, management, staff and players.”

They offer a list of “Manifesto Demands” that you really can’t argue with — most notably that Mike Brown will hire a general manager, drastically expand the scouting department and relinquish all control of player personnel. Two guys — “Showtime” and LeeRoy Jenkins — “live blogged” the Bengals/Eagles game today and here’s how they wrapped the end of a 13-13 tie as Bengals kicker Shayne Graham attempted to win the game with a 47-yard field goal:

Showtime: Let’s do it Shayne

LeeRoy Jenkins: 47 yard chance for Shayne, with the game clock running down

Showtime: TIE BALLGAME!

Showtime: Eagles ball on the 37

LeeRoy Jenkins: Ladies and Gentleman, Your 2008 Cincinnati Bengals!!!

LeeRoy Jenkins: I thought that was going in

Showtime: I just live blogged a tie

Showtime: How depressing

No argument here. The only thing worse than being a Cincinnati Bengals fan this season is being a Detroit Lions fan. (OK, the Kansas City Chiefs are right in there, too.) And the fans have a right to this revolution. I’m just not very optimistic that things will get better anytime soon. But it’s a nice try.
