Buffalo Bills Fire Head Coach Dick Jauron

The Buffalo Bills fired head coach Dick Jauron today. This really doesn’t come as any surprise. It was more an issue of “if not now, when?” And what better time than when you’re 3-6 and coming off three-plus seasons with a .421 winning percentage? Coach Jauron, while certainly a kind man who gave it all he had, simply could not revive a team that hasn’t made the playoffs since 1999. That streak ties the Detroit Lions for the longest active dry spell for any non-expansion team. All this being said, the Bills’ problems run deeper than the head coach, but …read more

Broncos Agree to Trade Jay Cutler

It appears Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler is going to get his wish to be traded.

Broncos owner Pat Bowlen released a statement today explaining the team’s plans to deal Jay to another team:
“Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by head coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful. A conversation with his agent earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded.”

A record 11th NFL team will be looking for a new head coach this offseason. The Kansas City Chiefs fired head coach Herm Edwards today. New GM Scott Pioli arrived last week and he and coach Edwards have had a number of conversations since that evidently didn’t produce what Mr. Pioli felt was a workable relationship. So he decided to go in a different direction, understanding that the Chiefs were parting ways with what he described as “a great man and a tremendous football coach.” I couldn’t agree more. I’m a Herm Edwards fan. But …read more

In a shocking turn of events, the Denver Broncos fired head coach Mike Shanahan today. Broncos owner Pat Bowlen issued the following statement:
“After giving this careful consideration, I have concluded that a change in our football operations is in the best interests of the Denver Broncos. This is certainly a difficult decision, but one that I feel must be made and which will ultimately be in the best interests of all concerned. I appreciate the 21 years that Mike Shanahan has given to the organization as an assistant and head coach, and the two Super …read more

Denver Broncos on the Offensive

National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast
Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler is reminding many of the team’s glory days QB John Elway. Granted, he has a long way to go to achieve Super Bowl victories and Hall of Fame status, but his quick release and gunslinger mentality can’t help but draw comparisons after the Broncos disposed of the Raiders (41-14) on Kickoff Weekend and the San Diego Chargers (39-38) today. Jay’s the NFL’s yardage passing leader after two games and his team is 2-0. The Broncos rally around him and you almost get the sense he’s going to make something good …read more

John Lynch Leaving Denver Broncos

National Football League Blogcast, NFL Blogcast
Perenniel Pro Bowl safety John Lynch is parting ways with the Denver Broncos effective immediately. John was told he’d compete for a starting safety job when he took a pay cut this offseason. But with the emergence of safety Marlon McCree, he didn’t play a single snap in the nickel or dime packages during the first week of training camp. And John isn’t one to hang around and watch from the sidelines:
“I met with Mike (Shanahan), and we both knew it wasn’t really working. To coach’s credit, he understood it and is allowing me to …read more

He is a prototypical Denver Broncos running back. He hits the hole quickly. He’s a downhill runner. And he fits with the team’s zone-blocking scheme. His name is Ryan Torain. And he was a 5th round Draft pick out of Arizona State this year. Maybe you’ve never heard of him. It doesn’t matter. If history repeats itself, he’s in for a successful NFL career. Just ask former Denver Broncos running backs Terrell Davis (6th round), Mike Anderson (6th round), Olandis Gary (4th round), Mike Bell (undrafted) or Selvin Young (undrafted). When training …read more

Running Backs Find New Homes

Running Backs Find New Homes

As the NFL’s off-season transactions continue to move at a rapid-fire pace, three top-level running backs found new homes today — Ahman Green and Travis Henry in free agency, and Thomas Jones (reportedly) via a trade.
Ahman Green rebounded from an injury-plagued 2005 by rushing for over 1,000 yards last season with the Packers. He moves to Houston where he’ll join Domanick Williams (formerly Davis) and Wali Lundy in what should be a formidable backfield. The only thing the Texans are forgetting (so far) is that they still don’t have anyone to block for these guys or protect the QB.
Travis Henry …read more
