NFL Supplemental Draft Canceled

This year’s NFL Supplemental Draft has been canceled because there weren’t any entrants. Rey Maualuga (USC), Brandon Pettigrew (Oklahoma State) and Michael Brown (Mississippi State) were considering applications, but didn’t follow-through. This is somewhat of a surprise because this Draft has actually been growing in popularity as a road to the NFL for “special case” athletes. Nine players have been selected in the Supplemental Draft over the past decade, including Pro Bowlers Jamal Williams (San Diego Chargers) and Mike Wahle (Seattle Seahawks).

Seahawks’ Marcus Trufant: $50 Million Man

Seattle Seahawks CB Marcus Trufant will probably spend the rest of his career in the great northwest after signing a six-year, $50.2 million contract today. There are $20 million in guarantees and a $3 million roster bonus due in 2010 means Marcus is due $28 million over the first three years of the contract, making him one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL.
