Here’s Glenn Dorsey’s Dick’s Sporting Goods commercial for Nike Pro Apparel. I love the look on Glenn’s face after he asks the question, “Is this supposed to be a football player?” Classic. This might be the best Dick’s commercial yet.

Here’s Darren McFadden’s Dick’s Sporting Goods commercial for the Nike Throwback Cleat. I think it’s funny there’s a disclaimer on the screen that says “Do Not Attempt” when Darren is testing the “human surface.” So, kids. Don’t try this on your friends. Someone could get hurt.

The 2008 NFL Draft is now just a couple days away. I’ll be blogging on-location from Radio City Music Hall Saturday.

Nike released this statement following Michael Vick’s indictment yesterday:
“Nike is concerned by the serious and highly disturbing allegations made against Michael Vick and we consider any cruelty to animals inhumane and abhorrent. We do believe that Michael Vick should be afforded the same due process as any citizen, therefore, we have not terminated our relationship. We have however made the decision to suspend the release of the Zoom Vick V and related marketing communications.
I checked out nikegridiron.com and found no trace of Michael Vick anywhere. At least Nike is acknowledging this incident and acting in the most responsible way they can until the facts are made known. Regardless, Nike should just forget MV and spend their time promoting one of their other athletes (and one of the game’s class acts) — LaDainian Tomlinson, instead.

Despite allegations that Michael Vick was involved in some ill-conceived dogfighting operation, Nike plans to continue working with him despite a letter they received from Humane Society president and CEO Wayne Pacelle who said:

“We trust that Nike does not want to be associated with any celebrity who is linked to this odious form of animal cruelty. We recognize that Mr. Vick has not been charged with a crime. But we know that Nike has high standards for its spokespersons.”

Nike spokesman Dean Stoyer said the company planned to honor its lucrative deal with Michael, who worked with the company to design a line of athletic shoes and has been used prominently in advertising campaigns:

“There is no change in the status of the agreement between Nike and football player Michael Vick. He is rightfully presumed innocent and afforded the same due process as any citizen, rather than be tried in the court of public opinion. Nike will continue to monitor the situation, but has nothing further to say at this time.”

Well said. Nike is handling this situation the right way. MV hasn’t been charged with anything yet and until he is, Nike is correct in continuing to feature him as a spokesman. Still, I wonder if Nike is hurting their reputation by associating themselves with someone who has garnered such negative publicity? AirTran Airways severed their relationship with Michael back in May. Will others follow?
