Would you like to own the Reebok Pro Fade Grip gloves that Six-Burgh Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Santonio Holmes wore when he caught the Super Bowl XLIII game-winning touchdown pass? Reebok is auctioning them (the highest bid at the time of this post is $7,400) or you can simply buy them for a cool million dollars. Santonio put his signature on the left palm. The “Immaculate Extension” auction (as Reebok is calling it) ends February 15. All proceeds go to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.

It looks like Chad Johnson Ocho Cinco will need to come up with about a half million dollars to put his new legal surname on the back of his uniform. Because of the NFL’s contractual agreement with Reebok, Chad would have to pay the production costs for the unsold inventory of “C. Johnson” jerseys. According to Bengals.com writer Geoff Hobson, that would amount to roughly $500,000. I guess we’ll see how important this little stunt is to Chad.

Because of the NFL’s contractual agreement with Reebok, Chad would have to pay the production costs for the unsold inventory of “C. I guess we’ll see how important this little stunt is to Chad.

I couldn’t be more amused by the situation. Chad thought he was pulling a fast one on the Bengals by essentially annoying them and causing them a lot of grief. I figured he would have his subtle ways of getting back at the team for not trading him. As it turns out, he just might have caused himself more trouble than it might be worth. Until he comes up with the half-a-mill, he’s still going to be Chad Johnson on the football field.

Here’s the new Reebok NFL Equipment commercial that features 20 NFL players, the most to ever appear in a single TV ad. Look for Eli and Peyton Manning, Kevin Boss, Jerricho Cotchery, Greg Ellis, Matt Hasselbeck, Madison Hedgecock, Chad Johnson, Thomas Jones, Mathias Kiwanuka, Nick Mangold, Laurence Maroney, Jeff Saturday, Bo Scaife, Derrick Ward, DeMarcus Ware, Ty Warren, Benjamin Watson, Reggie Wayne, and Vince Young. The products? Each player is wearing his team’s NFL Equipment Speedwick Tee and Reebok HexRide Rally II kicks. Football is back. Nice.

Giants won Super Bowl XLII, the winners will also be children in Nicaragua, Romania, and several other countries. Through a partnership between the NFL and World Vision, millions of dollars worth of the incorrectly titled, New England Patriot’s licensed apparel will bring joy to families in extreme poverty.

Since 1994, World Vision has accepted hundreds of official shirts and caps immediately following football’s biggest event. Instead of being destroyed, the losing team’s shirts and caps are shipped from the Super Bowl host city to World Vision’s Gifts-in-Kind Distribution Center in Pittsburgh, PA. There, they are sorted and added to shipments of other goods requested by World Vision field staff in various countries. Once through customs in the destination country, World Vision workers distribute the apparel to children and families in need, many of whom have never owned new clothing in their lives. David Krichavsky, the NFL’s Director of Community Relations, said:

“World Vision helps us to ensure that no NFL apparel goes to waste. We are pleased to find a good home for clothing by getting it to those who need it most.”

Additionally, World Vision receives and distributes playoff contender apparel that is unsalable in the United States and is donated by retailers and manufacturers. These donations include shirts, hats, sweatshirts and other clothing of teams that advance but are eliminated in the playoffs. In 2007, the combined value of goods donated by Dick’s Sporting Goods, the Sports Authority, and Reebok was approximately $2.5 million.

I’ve never heard of needing permission to wear and suit and tie, but that’s exactly what 49ers head coach Mike Nolan and Jags coach Jack Del Rio got when Commissioner Goodell gave them the thumbs up to look nicer than 30 other coaches. The upscale dress code was the result of nearly three years of negotiations among Coach Nolan, the NFL and Reebok. Though the league determines what apparel can be worn on the sideline, Reebok provides that clothing for coaches — from Bill Belichick’s ratty sweatshirts to the black suit Nolan was [...]
Post from: Every Morning Quarterback

I’ve never heard of needing permission to wear and suit and tie, but that’s exactly what 49ers head coach Mike Nolan and Jags coach Jack Del Rio got when Commissioner Goodell gave them the thumbs up to look nicer than 30 other coaches. The upscale dress code was the result of nearly three years of negotiations among Coach Nolan, the NFL and Reebok. Though the league determines what apparel can be worn on the sideline, Reebok provides that clothing for coaches — from Bill Belichick’s ratty sweatshirts to the black suit Nolan was allowed to wear in two games last season.

Ever since he got the 49ers’ top job in 2005, Coach Nolan has sought permission to dress like his ex-coach father while projecting an image of authority. Nolan got a trial run last year when both he and Coach Del Rio were allowed to suit up in coat-and-tie ensembles manufactured by Reebok during two home games. But Nolan wanted to wear his old-school outfit at every home game. He saw the move as a tribute to the league’s great coaches of the past — including his father, Dick, who coached the Niners from 1968-75 but is now in poor health with Alzheimer’s disease and prostate cancer.

Coach Nolan’s outfit last season consisted of a black suit, a white shirt and a red-and-gold striped tie. Commissioner Goodell said the new Reebok outfits for the 2007 season must reflect team colors as well, though the details will be worked out later. Other coaches will also be allowed to wear suits at home games if they want — though only Coaches Nolan and Del Rio expressed interest when the league surveyed the coaches during NFL meetings in Arizona back in March.

I wouldn’t want to wear a suit for any reason, especially not at a football game. Ties make me feel like I’m choking and the whole getup just seems too stuffy for the sidelines. Sure it looks nice, but not at a football game. Then again, I just spent the past two years of my life without a pair of “dress” shoes so what do I know?
