In yet another example of just how far a star running back can fall from one of the National Football League’s best to not being wanted by any NFL team, Edgerrin James was released by the Seattle Seahawks today. After seven games, he had just 46 carries for a meager 125 yards. Doing some quick math, that’s 2.7 yards per carry.

Check out the new lime green alternate jersey from the Seattle Seahawks. The Hawks will debut the uniform against the Chicago Bears today. I’ve always liked the bright green accent in the Seahawks logo, etc. It’s about time they made it a dominant color. The league needs more neon. The bulging disk is Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck’s back seems to be better. That’s if the team’s recent OTAs are a reliable indication. Matt is essentially playing against air with non-contact practices against his Seattle teammates. But his injury is apparently a thing of the past. According to The News Tribune in Tacoma, Matt’s release is “so consistent and the spiral so tight, he resembles a baseball pitcher with perfect ‘command’ of all his pitches.”

Three years ago, the Seattle Seahawks gave linebacker Julian Peterson a seven-year, $54 million contract. When he refused the team’s proposal to reduce his $6.5 million 2009 salary yesterday (mostly because the Hawks are giving current linebackers Lofa Tatupu and Leroy Hill guaranteed money), they traded him to the Detroit Lions for defensive tackle Cory Redding and a 5th round pick in next month’s NFL Draft.

The Seattle Seahawks won the T.J. Houshmandzadeh sweepstakes today. The receiver-depleted Hawks offered Housh five years for $40 million with $15 million guaranteed and beat out the Vikings and Bengals (be serious) for his services. N.Y. Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis was fined $10,000 by the NFL today for throwing snow at fans. After a 13-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, happy and maybe drunk Seahawks fans were tossing snowballs at Jets players as they left Qwest Field.
