When Sprint exec Dave Mellin asked me if I would be interested in using Sprint’s NFL Mobile technology to help me work through the NFL Draft this year, I jumped at the opportunity. Of course I was interested. I’m a technology fiend, so getting this content on a sleek Samsung Power Vision phone was just what I needed to make my life easier.

Because I do a lot of running back and forth from Radio Row to the interview rooms below Radio City Music Hall, there is a chance I would miss the announcement of a pick or a trade. With the “Draft Tracker” (part of Sprint’s NFL Mobile “Draft Central”) I was able to get real-time information and I always knew what team was “on the clock.” I never had to ask what I might have missed because I had all the information at my fingertips. Even when I stopped to briefly grab some lunch (there was no TV in the food room), “Draft Tracker” kept me informed. I can’t tell you how cool that was. But, the information went far beyond Draft pick updates. There was a live broadcast feed of NFL Network’s coverage; access to interviews with players, coaches and GMs; headline news; archived pre-Draft analysis; photos and bios of each Draft pick; team pages; and alerts. Outside of the “Draft Central” area were links to access the latest NFL news, schedules, scores, stats, team-specific content and more.

So, while the Sprint NFL Mobile technology kept me informed on-site at the NFL Draft, I can see how valuable this would be when I needed information “on-the-go.” Let’s face it. Football is a big part of my life and I am around it a lot. I’ve got Sirius Satellite Radio, NFL Sunday Ticket on DirecTV, and connectivity to the internet, of course. But there are times when I need access to information more conveniently and this is about as convenient and portable as it gets.

If you want more information on getting Sprint’s NFL Mobile technology for yourself, just visit their Web site at www.sprint.com/NFL.
