The New England Patriots signed free agent receiver Joey Galloway (recently released by Tampa Bay) to a one-year contract today. Terms of the deal weren’t available at the time of this post, but this is another perfect pickup for the Pats. New England has a knack for finding wily veterans who still have just enough “in the tank” to produce in a system that allows them to thrive to the absolute best of their abilities. With Tom Brady throwing the football and Randy Moss on the other side of the field, this decision was a …read more
Wes Welker Snow Angel

New England Patriots receiver Wes Welker was penalized for making a snow angel after scoring a touchdown in a 47-7 win over the Arizona Cardinals this afternoon. I really think the NFL should change the rules to allow snow angels. Currently, the unsportsmanlike conduct rule states that “players are prohibited from engaging in any celebrations while on the ground.” There should be an exception to that rule stating, “Players are prohibited from engaging in any celebrations while on the ground unless there is sufficient snow to make a snow angel.” It would be a simple …read more

Wes Welker Sets NFL Record

It won’t make front page headlines, but New England Patriots receiver Wes Welker very quietly set an NFL record today in a 20-10 win over the Buffalo Bills. Wes became the first player in NFL history to start a season with at least six receptions in nine consecutive games. I’m not even sure he knew he set a record. After the game, he talked about the team’s victory, not his own:
“This is a big win. It was for first place in the division for now and we’ve got a big one this next week on …read more
SBXLII Media Day: New England Patriots

Just as an NFL player watches game film to prepare for his next opponent, I watched my share of previous Super Bowl Media Days on YouTube to get ready for today. But nothing could really replace being here. Media Day at the Super Bowl features a throng of reporters from all over the world. And a record number participated today.
Naturally, 2007 National Football League MVP Tom Brady was the center of attention as he had the most traffic around his podium. And I thought he handled it very well. Which is not surprising …read more
Patriots Crush Cowboys 48-27, Tom Brady Throws Career High Five TDs in Win

I hate to say “I told you so,” but … the pregame hype between 5-0 New England and 5-0 Dallas wasn’t all it was built up to be as the Patriots hammered the Cowboys 48-27 today. Of course, I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who felt this way, but my pregame prediction turned out to be reality — Dallas is a good team, New England is an elite team.
Dallas will win their share of games this season. They have too much talent not to. I won’t go so far as to …read more
Patriots Add Donte Stallworth

After several weeks of visits with the Patriots, Titans, Dolphins and Eagles (where he played last season), WR Donte Stallworth decided on New England as his home for the 2007 season and possibly beyond. With Stallworth, the Pats get not only a top-notch receiver but a legitimate home run threat with big play potential. Stallworth has 233 career receptions for 3,516 yards and 28 touchdowns in 68 games.
I really like what New England has done this off-season. Just look at the offensive improvements alone. Kyle Brady and Sammy Morris aren’t stunning selections. But by adding WR Wes Welker from Miami …read more
