N.Y. Jets quarterback Brett Favre has once again retired from playing in the National Football League. The Jets confirmed his announcement today at a midday presser with GM Mike Tannenbaum and owner Woody Johnson. The N.Y. Jets fired head coach Eric Mangini today. Woody Johnson, the team’s owner and CEO, and Mike Tannenbaum, executive VP/GM, made the announcement at a news conference this morning at the Jets Training Center in Florham Park, N.J. According to Mr. Johnson:

The drama is over. Brett Favre has been traded to the N.Y. Jets. The exact compensation wasn’t immediately available, but it is believed to be a fourth-round draft pick that increases in value depending on how the Jets perform in the 2008 season.
