Tennessee Titans Still Undefeated

Last week, Tennessee Titans defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch said his team would lose a game this season. In fact, he said they would lose more than one game. Apparently, he’s bringing some practical thinking to the difficulty of achieving such a fete. Or he’s just trying to take the pressure off his team about even thinking of going undefeated. But with each passing week, the Tennessee Titans keep winning and moving one step closer to perfection. And Titans head coach Jeff Fisher isn’t impressed:

“It’s nice to win a ballgame and not play well. We sucked. We made some mistakes. They forced a lot of mistakes. We did some things that were really uncharacteristic of us and still found a way to win. We’ll correct the mistakes and try to get better and look forward to the next opponent.”

The Titans have found a variety of ways to win football games this season. Which bodes very well for them in their “non-quest” to go 16-0. This afternoon, the Chicago Bears were sold out to stop Tennessee’s potent rushing attack (149 yards/game coming in) and make Titans quarterback Kerry Collins beat them. And so it was. The Bears held Chris Johnson and LenDale White to 22 yards rushing and Kerry took matters into his own hands completing 30-of-41 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns in a 21-14 win over the Bears today.

The fact that the Titans won a road game against a quality opponent while playing poorly should be a warning to the rest of their schedule that they’ll need to bring their “A” game if they’re going to have any chance. As for the Titans going undefeated, why not? I realize the odds are stacked against them to pull it off. But for a team that takes a one-game-at-a-time approach and performs well the fundamentals of running (usually) the football and stopping the run, they’ve got a good chance to win every game they play.
