Jim Zorn Will Remain Redskins Head Coach
October 23, 2009 by David Kindervater

Five days ago, I questioned whether the Washington Redskins would keep head coach Jim Zorn through the end of this 2009 season. After all, the Skins are in the basement of the NFC East at 2-4 and they just stripped coach Zorn of his offensive play calling duties, replacing him with incoming Sherman Lewis. The handwriting was on the wall for coach Zorn’s departure.
Well, apparently not because on his own radio show (Inside the Red Zone) today, Redskins executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato made it public knowledge that coach Zorn will, in fact, remain as the head …read more
The Beginning of the End For Jim Zorn?

When the Washington Redskins hired an offensive consultant (Sherman Lewis) a couple weeks ago without letting head coach Jim Zorn know about it, it clearly marked the beginning of the end for coach Zorn’s days in D.C. After today’s embarrassing 14-6 loss to the previously winless Kansas City Chiefs, coach Zorn was “relieved” of his offensive play calling duties. I guess 265 total yards and seven first downs will do that to you.
The Redskins are 2-4 this season, but each game they’ve played has been against a team with no wins. With a bye week following next week’s Monday Night …read more
Jason Campbell is Determined

Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell wasn’t happy to hear of his team’s interest and subsequent attempts to obtain now Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler last week. Jason’s taking the high road, however, and is not publicly whining, complaining or asking to be traded. Rather, he is determined to prove the Redskins need look no further than his right arm to succeed offensively.
Jason met with Skins owner Dan Snyder and head coach Jim Zorn:
“We talked for a long time about everything that had happened and the thing I felt the best about was that I got a chance to talk …read more

Earlier today, defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth made National Football League history by becoming the first defensive player to sign a $100 million contract. He also achieved the most guaranteed money ever given to any NFL player — offense or defense. The Redskins held an introductory press conference this afternoon and here are Albert’s thoughts and comments.
Opening remarks
“Man, I’ll tell you. I never really thought I’d be here as far as a Redskin. And, you know, actually being a Redskin and … a player [for] a team that my uncle likes. My uncle is a …read more
Albert Haynesworth Signs With Redskins

As the 2009 NFL free agency signing period began, the Washington Redskins wasted no time improving their defense. Mere hours after re-signing defensive back DeAngelo Hall to a new deal, the Skins signed a player many felt was the most coveted free agent available on the market this offseason — former Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. In doing so, NFL history was made on two levels because Albert is now the league’s first $100 million defensive player. He signed a seven-year, $100 million deal. That includes $41 million guaranteed in the first three years …read more
Redskins Keep DeAngelo Hall

Washington Redskins defensive back DeAngelo Hall kicked off the free agency signing period by re-signing with the Skins on a six-year, $54 million deal that includes $22.5 million guaranteed and $30 million in the first three seasons. This comes as no surprise. DeAngelo is still one of the best defensive backs in the NFL and his agents — Alvin Keels and Joel Segal — spent the past couple weeks negotiating with the Redskins to put the finishing touches on this deal to keep him in DC. And the Skins are rumored to be very interested …read more

I’m very sad to say Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Sammy Baugh passed away last night at the age of 94. He was the final surviving member of the Hall of Fame’s charter Class of 1963. Pro Football HOF President/Executive Director Steve Perry released the following statement:
“We are saddened to learn of the death of Hall of Famer Sammy Baugh, one of the game’s true pioneers and most versatile players. Sammy’s rare athletic talents changed the way the game was played. It is no exaggeration to say that his tremendous passing skills were …read more

The Washington Redskins have been watching and waiting, hoping that running back Clinton Portis would be recovered enough from a two-week-old sprained knee to play in Sunday night’s important NFC East battle with the Dallas Cowboys. But it isn’t looking good. Clinton’s been listed as questionable all week and head coach Jim Zorn is no longer optimistic. Ladell Betts would take Clinton’s place in the starting lineup, but he’s coming off his own sprained knee and after a three week layoff, it’s hard to say how effective he’ll be. That opens the door for Shaun …read more

As predicted, former Oakland Raiders defensive back DeAngelo Hall wasn’t on the free agent market for long. DeAngelo agreed to terms with the Washington Redskins today and if he passes a physical, he’ll be in uniform for the Redskins-Cowboys game November 16. The Skins are on a bye this weekend. DeAngelo’s agent, Joel Segal, was the only one offering a comment:
“He’s excited to be coming home, he’s a Virginia Tech guy.”
DeAngelo should compliment a Redskins secondary that includes top-notch DBs like Carlos Rogers, Fred Smoot and Shawn Springs. They’ve all had their share of injuries …read more
Jason Taylor Has Skin Infection

When I heard that Washington Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor had a skin infection, I was ready to jump to conclusions. As it turns out, Jason had a minor procedure done on his injured left calf today, but Redskins head coach Jim Zorn was quick to point out that Jason has a skin infection — not a staph infection — that is being treated with antibiotics.
Notice how coach Zorn emphasized that this is not a staph infection. Staph infections are all the rage among NFL players who seem to be coming down with them …read more
