2008 NBA Finals Prediction - Lakers vs. Celtics Preview

On Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Spurs in Game 5 to advance to the NBA Finals. On Friday, the Boston Celtics topped the Detroit Pistons in Game 6 to meet the Lakers in the 2008 Finals. With the NBA championship on the line, the NBA’s two most storied franchises will face off.

kobe bryant celticsBoth teams entered the playoffs as the number one seed in their conference. The Lakers came out of the Western Conference by leaning on Kobe Bryant’s MVP skills. The Celtics are led by the trio of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.

Boston’s biggest advantage in the Finals will be their homecourt advantage. It will be difficult for the Lakers to win a game in Boston — especially with their rowdy fans doing all they can to bring another championship to Boston. Garnett, Pierce and Allen are now all play very well and the young players on the team have grown up in a hurry.

The Lakers, on the other hand, have the best player in the planet. Bryant will be tough for anyone to stop. On top of that, their team is amazingly deep. From Pau Gasol to Lamar Odom to their young and explosive bench, it’ll be difficult to keep the Lakers from scoring. Defensively, the Lakers are also very underrated.

My prediction on the 2008 NBA Finals? The Celtics will win Game 1 but then the Lakers will reel off four straight wins to win the championship.

  1. Joey says:

I agree the Celtics were the most dominant team in the regular season ,but havent proved anything in the postseason, and I don’t know if the Celtics can stop Kobe because he is the best player to play the game since Micheal! Lakers will win in 5.

  2. Carli says:

Cool to have the two most famous teams in history again in the finals! I think the Lakers will beat Boston in 6 or 7.

  3. Ryan says:

LA players 4-12 are way better than Boston’s 4-12.

Mamba, Odom and Spain are as good as the Big Three as long as Odom doesn’t dissapear on offense

  4. Boston v. Lakers says:

I think Lakers have proved thereselves and those who say Kobe Bryant is not the best on the planet, they are wrong.

  5. Lakers in 6. They will slpit in Boston and then the C’s will tke one in L.A. The LakeShow then will go to Boston and win just so they can rub it in there faces on Boston’s home floor.

  6. Jeromryone says:

In my opinion Lakers will win in four cause u get to close to the mamba u get bit.

  7. Eddy says:

Celtics in 6, stephen kersey predictions didnt came right since 2nd round playoffs. Celtic defense will be key in the win.

  8. Quevedz says:

Like what others have said, LAkers will win it in 5 games. Lakers win game one then loose game two then close out the series in LA. Series MVP wont be Kobe but Lamar Odom!

  9. Ryan says:

LAKERS IN 6 because fisher is better than rondo, bryant is better than allen, gasol matches up evenly with garnett, and odom is better than perkins, and radmonovich is a good shooter and pierce has far more bad shooting games than good shooting games and the lakers bench is stronger than the celtics

  10. rob says:

I believe the celtics are gonna win in 6-7 games. because they have the best defense in the league. and they beat the no. 2 team in the nba in 6 games.I beieve kobe is gonna get shut down in game one, maybe 10-15 pts. celtics are too good.

  11. Kevin says:

seems like rob and eddy are the only smart ones here. everyone talks about the lakers bench being so great. kobe and the lakers fold against any defense. thats why they were good in the western conference. no one plays defense out there.

  12. maisha says:

celtics wil win game 3, lakers will win game 4 and 5, celtics will win game 6

  13. mclemm says:

celtics leading 3 games to 1 what happen all u Lakers ppl

  14. hostile17 says:

well looks like your predictions were wrong wrong wrong. Ha! Celtics were the better team all along and as I predicted won the series in 6

    Nice prediction Nostradamus….

  16. Cheryl Maass says:

I guess the Celtics made 99% of the ESPN analysts look pretty foolish. Celtics dominate!!!

  17. Chump Bryant says:

Wait, Steve, what happened? I think Kobe should stick to telling me how Shaq’s a$$ tastes! Who could possibly think that the Lakers bench was better than the Celtics’ bench? Sasha No-D? The Lakers were lucky they won any of those games, Celtics just wanted to show them what’s up at home. 39 points?!?!?!? AHHHHHAHAHAHAHA

  18. nelson says:

Well you too went down with your horrible prediction of the Lakers. Three things you forgot from the regular season: 1) 66-16, 2) 25-5 against the “formidable Western Conference, 3) Most important 2-0 against Lakers, both by double digits. Andrew Bynum may have given Lakers a chance to take series seven games, but remember if he doesn’t get hurt, do the Lakers even get Gasol? Next time don’t let yourself get caught up in the hype.
