The New England Patriots have traded quarterback Matt Cassel to the Kansas City Chiefs for a second round draft pick. Last season, Cassel got better and better as the QB for the Patriots after Tom Brady was lost for the season during the first game. In Kansas City, Cassel is all but assured of being the starter. With new management in town, the Chiefs wanted a proven signal caller to run their offense — and they got one. The good news for Cassel is the fact that the Chiefs have some talent on that end of the field. Wide receiver Dwayne Bowe is a big play threat and tight end Tony Gonzalez is still arguably the best player at his position in the NFL. Cassel’s fantasy football value will be that of a top end backup quarterback heading... [Read more]

Kellen Winslow, one of the most sought after fantasy football tight ends over the last few years, has a new address. The Cleveland Browns have traded the tight end to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for draft picks. Winslow’s talent has never been a question. Even though he plays tight end, he has the skillset of a big wide receiver. He runs good routes, has good hands and his speed and agility are very impressive for a player of his size. Last season, Winslow struggled along with most of the Browns’ offense. After two solid fantasy football campaigns, his 2008 fantasy football season was a clunker. As usual, both injuries and off the field drama led to Winslow’s demise. With the Buccaneers, Winslow has a chance to be a very good... [Read more]

Kerry Collins has re-signed with the Tennessee Titans after a very successful 2008 NFL campaign. Collins took over for Vince Young early in the season and had Tennessee playing at a high level for most of the season. The contract Collins signed is for two years and has approximately $8.5 million in guaranteed money. Although he doesn’t have a high ceiling as a fantasy football quarterback, this move definitely has some fantasy impact. First of all, Young’s stock drops even further. If Collins would have signed elsewhere, Young would have had a chance to possibly start for the Titans. Now with Collins back in the fold, Young will likely be the backup once again. As for Collins’ fantasy value, at its highest he may be a decent... [Read more]

Last offseason, Michael Turner went from the San Diego Chargers to the Atlanta Falcons and then made an immediate impact on the 2008 fantasy football season. For this offseason, here is a loot at the top five free agent running backs in the NFL. If these players land in the right position, they may make a Turner-like splash in the 2009 fantasy football season. 1. Darren Sproles Although Sproles has been franchised by the Chargers, it’s not a guarantee that he’ll return for the 2009 fantasy football season. In the playoffs, teams saw just what Sproles is capable of if given an opportunity. 2. Derrick Ward Playing behind Brandon Jacobs, Ward had very impressive stats in 2008. He gained more than 1,000 yards and averaged better than... [Read more]
Laveranues Coles Released – Miami Dolphins?

Laveranues Coles is no longer a member of the New York Jets. An unrestricted free agent, Coles is free to sign with any team in the NFL. Going into the 2008 fantasy football season, Coles was the number one wide receiver on the Jets. Although he had his moments, he never seemed to click with quarterback Brett Favre. The result was a very uneven season that saw his overall production fall. For New York, this move will likely mean that Jerricho Cotchery will likely become the team’s leading receiver. Cotchery, as a result, gets a boost in his fantasy value with this news. On the other hand, whoever takes over for Favre has one less target to work with and thus a lowered fantasy value. As for Coles, he’ll have a lot of teams interested... [Read more]
