Dirk Nowitzki Injury Update

March 24, 2008 by Stephen Kersey

The Dallas Mavericks had their playoff lives flash before their eyes when Dirk Nowitzki crumpled to the floor holding his leg. Nowitzki hit the floor after blocking an Ime Udoka shot against the San Antonio Spurs.

The initial prognosis is that Nowitzki is expected to miss at least two weeks. However, the Mavs are going to update Nowitzki’s condition on Monday.

Even if Nowitkzi misses just two weeks, it’s going to be tough for the Mavs to make the playoffs now. Without Nowitzki, the Mavs become a mediocre team. Jason Kidd isn’t playing well and the team doesn’t have enough offense to survive long without the big German in the middle.

For now, take Nowitzki out of your fantasy lineup. If anyone on the Mavs gets a boost due to this news, it’s Josh Howard. Howard will be looked to early and often to replace a lot of Nowitzki’s scoring. On the waiver wire, Brandon Bass is a player to target.
