Dustin Keller 2008 Fantasy Projections – New York Jets

The New York Jets have run a relatively boring offense in the last few years. Looking to add a new dimension to their attack, the Jets decided to spend a first round pick on Dustin Keller, a tight end out of Purdue.

Keller, who was the first tight end taken in the draft, is a former wide receiver who still has many wide receiver skills. He’s extremely athletic, has good hands and he runs routes well. The Jets will undoubtedly try to use him to spread the field and give the defenses something to worry about.

A lot of NFL scouts question whether Keller will be able to last at tight end in the NFL because of his poor blocking. He wasn’t asked to block much while at college, and the rare times he did block, he did so unsuccessfully. In the NFL, there will be times when he’s asked to block and Keller will have to at least be adequate to stay on the field.

Picking Keller in a 2008 fantasy football draft will be a bit risky. The Jets have other options at tight end, including Chris Baker and Bubba Franks. Additionally, the Jets’ passing game is still a work in progress.

In a dynasty league, Keller is a good value pick. He has the skills to be a very good fantasy football tight end. It may take a year or two but Keller will eventually be starting for the Jets at some point down the line.
