Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers
While the major news regarding Steve Smith is his two-game suspension for punching a teammate, Smith now has some injury woes to deal with. Smith suffered a concussion in a preseason game that could sideline him for a bit. The good news is that he should be ready for when his suspension is lifted by the Panthers.

Braylon Edwards, Cleveland Browns
Braylon Edwards was involved in a freak injury during a Browns practice. Running in socks, Edwards was racing against newly acquired wide receiver Donte Stallworth. After the race, Edwards slowed down and Stallworth stepped on the back of his foot with spiked cleats. The accident forced Edwards to the hospital. However, he should be ready to go in plenty of time before the regular season.

Anquan Boldin, Arizona Cardinals
For the last few weeks, Anquan Boldin has struggled with a hamstring injury. The good news is that the Cardinals wide receiver is now ready to return to practice. He is also saying that he will play in Arizona’s next preseason game. That said, keep an eye on Boldin because hamstring injuries can linger for an entire season.

Plaxico Burress, New York Giants
The same ankle that bothered Plaxico Burress last season is bothering him again. He is sitting out practices and will likely be very questionable to play in any preseason game. Burress and the Giants want him as healthy as possible heading into the regular season.

Who will the top five fantasy football wide receivers be in 2008? Here is an early look at the wide receiver rankings.
1) Randy Moss, New England Patriots
If Randy Moss stays with the Patriots, he’ll have to be the first wide receiver taken in fantasy football next season. He showed what he’s capable of when playing with Tom Brady and fantasy owners will jump at the chance of drafting him next year.
2) Terrell Owens, Dallas Cowboys

Who will the top five fantasy football wide receivers be in 2008? Here is an early look at the wide receiver rankings.

1) Randy Moss, New England Patriots
If Randy Moss stays with the Patriots, he’ll have to be the first wide receiver taken in fantasy football next season. He showed what he’s capable of when playing with Tom Brady and fantasy owners will jump at the chance of drafting him next year.

2) Terrell Owens, Dallas Cowboys
The Tony Romo to Terrell Owens hookup should continue to be a great one in 2008. Owens is getting up there in years but he keeps himself in such good shape, that shouldn’t be a major concern. All the pieces are in place for Owens to have a great 2008.

3) Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts
It appears that the baton has officially been passed from Marvin Harrison to Reggie Wayne. Wayne led the NFL in receiving yards in 2007 and should have a similarly big season in 2008. Week to week, Wayne is a very solid fantasy football option.

4) Braylon Edwards, Cleveland Browns
Edwards exploded in 2007 and now looks like a verifiable fantasy football superstar. He was second to Moss in receiving touchdowns and was seventh in the NFL in receiving yards. Edwards should only get better next season for Cleveland.

5) Plaxico Burress, New York Giants
After at times carrying the Giants to their Super Bowl victory, Burress deserves a lot of respect going into 2008. Playing on a bad ankle all season, Burress had 12 touchdowns and over 1,000. If he can get healthy in 2008, sky is the limit for Burress.

Let’s go back to the beginning of the 2007 Fantasy Drafts and pretend you are allowed to select one NFL Team’s premium offensive position players (i.e. QB, RB, WR, and TE). Now the obvious early picks would be the New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, etc. There is a team, however, that has a player at most of those key positions putting up hefty fantasy numbers yet somehow managing to fly under the radar. Know who I’m talking about?

Let’s go back to the beginning of the 2007 Fantasy Drafts and pretend you are allowed to select one NFL Team’s premium offensive position players (i.e. QB, RB, WR, and TE). Now the obvious early picks would be the New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, etc. There is a team, however, that has a player at most of those key positions putting up hefty fantasy numbers yet somehow managing to fly under the radar. Know who I’m talking about?

The Cleveland Browns actually have three players that are making huge contributions to fantasy teams everywhere. After stepping in for Charlie Frye Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Derek Anderson has done his best to delay the NFL Debut of rookie phenom Brady Quinn. His Week 2 performance against the Cincinnati Bengals sent many owners scrambling to their wavier-wire to put a claim in for the new Browns signal caller. He has been like a roller coaster ever since, but he is showing loads of potential and may be playing himself into a large off-season contract somewhere!

Braylon Edwards is finally starting to show why the Browns selected him with the 3rd pick of the 2005 NFL Draft. His 146 yards and two touchdown game against the Cincinnati Bengals was just a start of what has been a very productive season for the former Wolverine. Just this weekend against the Miami Dolphins Edwards caught 5 balls, three of which went for touchdowns! Excluding weeks 10 and 11 when the Browns face the Steelers and Ravens, expect Edwards to continue putting up #1 WR type numbers for you if you own him, or against you if you do not.

Kellen Winslow had major hype surrounding him when Cleveland selected him with the 6th pick of the 2004 NFL Draft. Finally, after showing flashes of brilliance for years but never being able to keep himself on the field, Winslow has given Cleveland fans and fantasy owners worldwide reason to smile! A tight end averaging 84 yards receiving per game is like a dream come true in the Fantasy Football world, and that is precisely what Kellen is doing so far this season. He is finally starting to put his money where his mouth is, and fans everywhere are grateful!

Mix those three players in with Jamal Lewis when/if he gets healthy and you have an offensive unit made in Fantasy Football heaven. No one could’ve expected what we’ve seen from Anderson, but we’ve been patiently waiting for Edwards and Winslow to show up and produce. It looks like this may be the year they take a step towards fantasy greatness and move themselves up a few spots in the 2008 Mock Drafts that are sure to be coming soon!
