We are seeing a number of rookies make an impact right away. Here are the hottest rookies in the NBA when it comes to fantasy basketball.

Brandon Jennings, Milwaukee Bucks
When speaking of NBA rookies, Brandon Jennings must be mentioned first. While he’s still producing at a high level, his shooting percentage has been plummeting lately. It’ll be interesting to see if he can bounce back.

Tyreke Evans, Sacramento Kings
With Kevin Martin out injured, Tyreke Evans has emerged as the star of the Kings. He can score, grab rebounds and dish out assists. If Jennings doesn’t heat back up, Evans may become the talk of this rookie class.

Darren Collison, New Orleans Hornets
With Chris Paul out, Darren Collison has stepped in and done a fantastic job as a starter. In his last five games, he’s averaging 16.4 points, 7.2 assists and 3.4 rebounds.

DeJuan Blair, San Antonio Spurs
When it comes to per-minute production, DeJuan Blair is a beast. He grabs more boards per minute than anyone in the NBA and he can score when he touches the ball. If he gets more minutes, watch out!

C Andrew Bynum, Los Angeles Lakers
To begin the fantasy basketball season, Andrew Bynum has been amazing. He seems to be living up to his vast potential. That said, expect his numbers to come crashing back down to earth once Pau Gasol returns. Trade him now while he’s putting up superstar numbers.

PF Chris Bosh, Toronto Raptors
Yes, Chris Bosh is a great player. But he’s playing over his head at the moment. He’s averaging career-highs in points and points — and he hasn’t missed a three-pointer this season. Trade him before he cools off.

SF Richard Jefferson, San Antonio Spurs
In the last few games, Richard Jefferson has been very good. He’s putting up fantasy stats by the truck load. But once Tim Duncan and Tony Parker return from injury, expect Jefferson’s role to be diminished.

SG Ben Gordon, Detroit Pistons
Ben Gordon is yet another player that is seeing his stats boosted by missing stars. In Detroit, both Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince have been sidelined — which has allowed Gordon to get off to a very good start.

PG Brandon Jennings, Milwaukee Bucks
In future years, Brandon Jennings will be a fantasy basketball stud. But even though he’s off to a very good start this season, remember that he’s a very young player who doesn’t have many games under his belt. He’ll be hitting the rookie wall and his value in fantasy basketball will plummet. Trade him prior to that point.

SG Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
Although he hasn’t been the scoring machine that he was billed as coming out of college, Stephen Curry is impressing with his all-around game. He’s hitting three-pointers and he’s averaging 5.4 assists to go with his 8.7 points.

SF Omri Casspi, Sacramento Kings
Omri Casspi has the makings of a fantasy basketball beast. He’s capable of scoring, hitting threes, grabbing rebounds and adding bonus tallies in blocks and steals.

PF DeJuan Blair, San Antonio Spurs
When DeJuan Blair gets minutes, he has produced. He’s scoring, rebounding and shooting for a high percentage so far in his young career.

C Taj Gibson, Chicago Bulls
A hustle player first and foremost, Taj Gibson can also score a little bit in addition to rebounding and blocking a few shots.

Early on in the 2009-10 NBA season, there are a few fantasy basketball sleepers that are making their names known. These players could be able to step up and help you win a fantasy basketball championship this season. Here’s a look at the sleepers we have seen so far:
C Ben Wallace, Detroit Pistons
It seemed like Ben Wallace’s career was over. In the last few seasons, he did next to nothing. But he’s starting for the Pistons at center and he’s putting up stats. It might not last but he’s valuable for the time being.

PF Marreese Speights, Philadelphia 76ers
Although Marreese Speights might not get many minutes on a consistent basis, his per-minute numbers have been very good so far in his NBA career. If there’s an injury to the front line, his value would skyrocket. As it is, he holds a decent amount of value.

SF Danilo Gallinari, New York Knicks
If you are in a league that values three-point shooting, Danilo Gallinari is a player you should get on your team. Playing for Mike D’Antoni in New York, Gallinari is sure to hoist a ton of threes this season.

Danilo Gallinari - New York Yankees (Image: Zuma Press)

SG Rasual Butler, Los Angeles Clippers
Although he’s coming off the bench, Rasual Butler has a steady role so far for the Clippers. He’ll help you in three-pointers made and he can pick up stats in a variety of categories. Not a great fantasy option but he’s a solid filler with upside.

PG Jason Williams, Orlando Magic
It’s difficult to roster a backup point guard in most fantasy basketball formats, but if it makes sense in your situation, go ahead and pickup Jason Williams. He could put up very good per-minute stats playing with a talented Orlando squad. He’s averaging nearly ten points and seven assists in his first two games of the 2009-10 NBA season.

Late in your fantasy basketball draft, you may be interested in rolling the dice on a player with a high ceiling who could become an overnight sensation. There are a number of fantasy basketball super sleepers that fit that bill. Here’s a look at some of these super sleepers:
C Channing Frye, Phoenix Suns

C Channing Frye, Phoenix Suns
If you go back to his rookie season, Channing Frye looked like a star in the making. But since that point, the outside shooting bigman has struggled. That said, he’s now on the Suns and could very well be a starter. If he finds some of his lost magic, he’s definitely a player that can help your fantasy basketball team.

PF DeJuan Blair, San Antonio Spurs
In preseason play, DeJuan Blair has been outstanding. He’s scoring, rebounding and even mixing in a few assists. If he gets playing time, he’ll be a worthy fantasy basketball addition.

SF Chase Budinger, Houston Rockets
The Rockets will need someone to pick up the scoring slack and Chase Budinger might be one of those who is able to shoulder the load. He’s shooting extremely well and could make an impact right away.

SG Carlos Delfino, Milwaukee Bucks
Don’t forget about Carlos Delfino. He left to Europe for a year but now he’s back and he’s stepping into a situation in Milwaukee where he could earn a lot of minutes. His tough style should mesh well with Scott Skiles’ coaching — which could earn him a healthy amount of minutes.

PG Sergio Rodriguez, Sacramento Kings
The Kings look like they have tired of Beno Udrih at point guard. While Tyreke Evans is probably ahead of Rodriguez, the Spaniard could earn a lot of playing time if the Kings eventually move Evans to shooting guard.

For the 2009-10 fantasy basketball season, there are a few players you should avoid in your fantasy draft. These players are currently overrated and aren’t likely to live up to the hype.
C Andrea Bargnani, Toronto Raptors
Many supposed fantasy experts are touting Andrea Bargnani as a sleeper. I simply don’t agree. He’s a streaky player and with more offensive options in Toronto, I think his slice of the pie will shrink. Look at his stats last year as his ceiling for this season.

PF Kevin Garnett, Boston Celtics
Since joining the Celtics, Garnett’s stats have suffered while his winning has improved. This year, expect his stats to take another hit. Boston knows he has to be healthy in the playoffs for the team to have a shot, so that means a light regular season load for Garnett.

SF Ron Artest, Los Angeles Lakers
Ron Artest is one of the most talked about players in the NBA these days. But don’t let that fool you. He’s going to only be an average fantasy basketball player this season. His minutes will be lowered and the Lakers don’t need him to shoulder much of the burden on either end of the court.

SG Allen Iverson, Memphis Grizzlies
How many red flags do you need before you avoid Allen Iverson? He has a hamstring injury that could linger. He’s coming off of a bad year in Detroit. He’s on a young team with a lot of scorers. Let Iverson be someone else’s headache.

PG Andre Miller, Portland Trail Blazers
If you haven’t been paying attention, there’s a good chance that Andre Miller may come off the bench for the Blazers. His stats should still be good in that scenario but it definitely hurts his fantasy basketball potential in the 2009-10 NBA season.

Don't Draft Allen Iverson (Image: Zuma Press)

C Darko Milicic, New York Knicks
We promise, this is the last chance we will give Darko Milicic. The historic bust was traded to the Knicks in the offseason and he has a chance to earn plenty of playing time under Mike D’Antoni. He has enough skill to be a good fantasy basketball backup center.

PF Anthony Randolph, Golden State Warriors
While Anthony Randolph is quickly becoming a household name, he makes this list because he has superstar potential. He was awesome in summer league and if he can translate to the NBA, watch out!

SF Andres Nocioni, Sacramento Kings
After getting traded to the Kings last season, Andres Nocioni put up impressive stats. This year, there’s no reason for that to stop. Nocioni should play a lot of minutes and he’s talented enough to really help your fantasy squad.

SG Courtney Lee, New Jersey Nets
With the Magic last season, Courtney Lee showed glimpses of fantastic ability. This year, he’ll probably get tons of PT with the Nets. If that happens, you can expect him to produce.

PG Tyreke Evans, Sacramento Kings
Even though he’s a rookie, Tyreke Evans will likely win the starting point guard spot in Sacramento. His offensive game still needs work but he can really get to the line, which will help out your fantasy basketball team.

It’s difficult to pass on LeBron James when you have the first pick in your fantasy basketball draft, however Chris Paul is actually the better pick. He’s a basketball stud who has almost no downside.

1. Chris Paul, New Orleans Hornets
It’s difficult to pass on LeBron James when you have the first pick in your fantasy basketball draft, however Chris Paul is actually the better pick. He’s a basketball stud who has almost no downside.

2. LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers
On talent alone, there’s no player in the NBA who can match LeBron James. If you have a top-two selection, picking LeBron isn’t a bad move at all.

3. Danny Granger, Indiana Pacers
Even though he might not be a household name, Danny Granger’s game is built for fantasy basketball. As long as he stays healthy, he’s an all-around producer who will help your team every night.

4. Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder
If you want to shoot for the stars, go with Kevin Durant. He’s a superstar in the making and could make a massive jump in fantasy value this season.

5. Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat
Dwyane Wade has been a walking injury concern as of late. But when he’s healthy and playing his best, there are few players in the league that can match his production.

6. Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers
While Kobe Bryant is no doubt a fantastic player, there’s some question about his fantasy worth this coming year. With so much talent around him, he may not have to carry as big of a load as usual.

Kobe Bryant - Los Angeles Lakers (Image: Zuma Press)

7. Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic
Yes, his free throw shooting is horrible. But he showed improvement at times in the playoffs last year and the rest of his game is so dominant that he’s worth a top ten fantasy basketball draft selection.

8. Deron Williams, Utah Jazz
Last year, Deron Williams was somewhat disappointing at times. But now that he’s fully healed from injury, Williams has the potential to become an absolute fantasy stude.

9. Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks
With his personal problems behind him, you have to think that Dirk Nowitzki is geared to have a very good season. He brings a lot of value to your fantasy team — especially in terms of three-point shooting.

10. Chris Bosh, Toronto Raptors
Heading into the 2010 free agent market, Chris Bosh as every reason to have a monster season. Plus, the Raptors will want to keep him happy with plenty of touches. He doesn’t have a tremendous ceiling but he should be very, very good.

Instead, LeBron will wait it out and become an unrestricted free agent next summer. During the summer of 2010, many teams — most notably the New York Knicks — will make a run at adding the best player in the league to their squad.

As for the fantasy basketball world, this news doesn’t change much. If anything, it might be good news. With the Cavs facing a lot of pressure to win and keep LeBron happy, they will spend to put good players around him. With that in mind, LeBron should continue to have enough talent around him to continue to be a fantasy basketball force.

This summer, the big news for Cleveland was the addition of Shaquille O’Neal. While Shaq clogs the lane, he’s proven to help perimeter players — just ask Penny Hardaway, Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade.

The New York Knicks claimed Williams off waivers and they are reportedly talking to him right now about a contract. While it’s been a while since White Chocolate was relevant in the fantasy basketball world, signing with the Knicks would make him relevant once again.

The 33-year-old native of West Virginia would likely have a chance of starting for Mike D’Antoni. A point guard in D’Antoni’s offense is worth rostering on your fantasy team, as we saw last year with Chris Duhon. Once given the reins to D’Antoni’s offense, Duhon averaged 11.1 points and 7.2 assists last year for the Knicks.

While Duhon will likely start again for New York, D’Antoni may decide to go with Williams. A very good passer, Williams could rack up the assists when playing for the Knicks. His points per game would also improve.

Keep an eye on if Williams ends up with the Knicks. If he doesn’t, he’ll likely return to fantasy basketball irrelevancy.
