Roy Williams of the Detroit Lions has found his way into many trade rumors since the end of the 2007 NFL season. Williams is a very talented wide receiver who some speculate may be on the move.

In 2007, Williams had 838 yards, five touchdowns and caught 64 passes. Williams missed four games due to injury. While it was a solid season, it didn’t compare to his numbers in 2006. That said, Williams played all 16 games and totaled 82 catches, 1,310 yards and seven touchdowns.

It’s not believed that the Lions are openly shopping him, but the team will likely let him go if they receive an offer that they deem fair. What teams are looking to add Williams?

Basically, every team that has a hole at wide receiver has been linked to Williams. Those teams include the Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles.

In Dallas, Williams would team with Terrell Owens to from a deadly one-two punch. Williams would be returning to the state he went to college (University of Texas). The Redskins watched as all their receivers struggled last year and bringing in Williams would definitely be a big upgrade. The Eagles need a big, strong wide receiver to become the team’s leading redzone target.

No matter where Williams is in 2008, he’s in line for a bounce back fantasy football season. If he stays healthy, there’s no reason why he can’t go for 1,200 yards and eight touchdowns.

What type of fantasy football impact will this transaction make in the 2008 season? If Jones is re-instated and wins a starting job with the Cowboys, he makes the Cowboys’ defense much more valuable in the fantasy football world.

While Jones has a lot of problems off of the field, on the field he’s extremely talented and a phenomenal athlete. If Jones gets an interception, he’s very capable of returning it for a touchdown.

Additionally, Jones should become the Cowboys kick and punt returner. In this role, he’s very effective. He should be good for at least one or two return touchdowns in 2008.

The Cowboys are taking a risk but the reward would be huge – in both the NFL and the fantasy football world.

In return, the Chiefs received a package of draft picks. It currently isn’t known exactly which picks the Chiefs received, however reports indicate that the Chiefs received first, second and third rounders in the deal.

With so many picks, the Chiefs will be able to restock their roster in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Chiefs now have the flexibility to add a quarterback or a wide receiver in the first round, to go along with a replacement for Allen.

As for the Vikings, they desperately needed some pass rush help. Although they’ve been amazing against the run in recent years, their pass defense has been shaky. A big reason has been an inability to get to the quarterback. Allen will help do just that.

Former NFL MVP Shaun Alexander was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday. Alexander, who struggled through a mediocre 2007 campaign, will be free to sign with another NFL team.

Not too long ago, Alexander was a fantasy football franchise player. He was a top three pick who could be counted on to bring you big points on a weekly basis. Nowadays, it’s unsure whether he’ll be able to land a starting role in the 2008 NFL season.

As far as the Seahawks are concerned, they needed to move on. The fans had grown tired of Alexander and Seattle had brought in a couple of other running backs. Julius Jones and TJ Duckett were signed and now both of those players will get a lot of carries for the Seahawks. Jones will be more responsible for yardage, while Duckett will likely be the goal line back.

Alexander’s next stop in the NFL is unknown at this point. While he isn’t expected to retire, he’ll need to fight for carries in 2008. Which teams could be interested in signing Alexander? Two teams that really need running back help are the Detroit Lions and the New York Jets. The Lions waived Kevin Jones earlier in the offseason and could be looking for a replacement. The Jets have signed a number of veteran players and could view Alexander as another veteran that can help the team win now.

There have also been ties between Alexander and the Cincinnati Bengals. Alexander could end up with the Bengals to further bolster their running game.

Alexander’s fantasy projections for the 2008 season will depend on what team he signs with and how many carries he’s expected to get. However, in all scenarios, he won’t be viewed as anything more than a third or fourth rounder in a fantasy football draft.

Here is one fan who thinks you should leave Shaun Alexander alone:

The Denver Broncos signed Samie Parker to a contract on Monday. Parker, a 5-foot-11, 190 pound wide receiver, could conceivably battle for a starting position on the Broncos in 2008.

Parker spent the first four seasons of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs. Parker showed glimpses of potential but never was able to sustain quality play. The Chiefs had decided to move on without the wide receiver.

One reason the Broncos brought in Parker is due to the Brandon Marshall situation. Marshall, who was the lead receiver on Denver last season, suffered an arm laceration while on vacation with his family. Marshall will miss several months with his injury. In the meantime, the Broncos were in need of depth at wide receiver.

Right now, the most likely player to start next to Marshall in 2008 for the Broncos is Brandon Stokley. However, if Stokley stumbles at any point, Parker could find his way into the starting lineup. His fantasy projections for 2008 depend largely on whether he starts. That said, he’s not draftable in any scenario. If he starts, wait for him to have a good game before you consider picking him up.

The best thing about him is his blocking. He’s a very talented blocker at the tight end position. However, blocking doesn’t count in fantasy football. Could he be worthy of a 2008 fantasy football draft pick?

Probably not. Hartsock has some talent but the Falcons quarterback situation is too uncertain to trust Hartsock. A better idea is to keep an eye on Hartsock early on in the 2008 NFL season and then pick him up if he shows any potential.

Even if he starts, I don’t see him going for more than 400 yards and two touchdowns.

Mike Vanderjagt, the most accurate regular season kicker in NFL history, is once again getting looks from NFL teams. After being out of the league in 2007, Vanderjagt could very well begin kicking once again in 2008.
The team that apparently has the most interest currently is the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have had trouble landing a quality kicker for what has seemed like the last decade. While the 38-year-old Vanderjagt would only be a stopgap fix, he’d likely be an upgrade.

The team that apparently has the most interest currently is the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have had trouble landing a quality kicker for what has seemed like the last decade. While the 38-year-old Vanderjagt would only be a stopgap fix, he’d likely be an upgrade.

If the Chiefs don’t sign him, the other team said to have interest is the Denver Broncos. The Broncos let longtime kicker Jason Elam leave and are still searching for his replacement. Vanderjagt is said to currently be high on the team’s list.

In the fantasy football world, you should take a wait and see approach for Vanderjagt in 2008. In his last year in the league in 2006, he hit only 13-of-18 field goal attempts for the Dallas Cowboys. At his advanced age, there’s a chance he won’t be able to reclaim his old magic.

“It’s crazy to me that I’m the guy they’re all talking about, and the story is out there everywhere, and I have nothing to do with it. It’s not something I’m thinking about. It’s kind of funny. Even when I’m retired, they won’t let me stay retired.”

Although nothing official has been announced, multiple media sources are reporting that Chris Henry of the Cincinnati Bengals will be suspended indefinitely. Henry, who was arrested yet again earlier in the week, might have played his last game in the NFL.
While Henry has shown an abundance of talent on the football field, his inability to stay out of trouble has haunted him since his college days. He’s been given multiple second chances over the years and now his second chances have likely come to an end.

The Bengals reaction to Henry’s latest arrest was to release him. The rest of the NFL will wait to see what commissioner Roger Goodell will do before even thinking about signing him. However, there’s a good chance no team is will to touch him at this point.

Obviously, Henry’s fantasy stock is worthless at this point. The other player this really hurts is Carson Palmer. While the Bengals have a lot of weapons, Palmer was best when Henry was at his best as a premiere third wide receiver. Without Henry, Palmer’s job just got harder. For that reason, Palmer’s stock also has to be hurt by this news.

I’m often asked what fantasy football owners should be doing in the offseason. While it depends on whether you are in a redraft or a dynasty league, there are steps you should be taking during the NFL’s long offseason. Even though football season is months away, you can begin to get ahead of your competition by preparing now.

Fantasy Football Redraft Offseason Strategy and Preparation

During the offseason, you should follow players who change teams during free agency or trades. Begin keeping notes on players who you think land in good situations. You can also keep notes on players who have ended up in situations that could hurt their fantasy production.

You should also keep track of coaching changes. Not only head coaches but also offensive and defensive coordinators. If a new coach is pass happy, you can bump up the value of the quarterback and wide receivers on that team. If a new coach is known to run the ball often, also take that into consideration.

Also be on the lookout for any injury news or any contract squabbles that may extend into the regular season. If you do your homework early, you can be far ahead of your competition by draft time.

Fantasy Football Dynasty Offseason Strategy and Preparation

The difference with dynasty leagues is you keep your team from season to season. Due to that, you should pay special attention to the players on your team. Read up on the latest news and try to keep a feel on how they should produce in the future.

If you are allowed to trade in the offseason, you should monitor the value of your players on an on-going basis. If you sense a trade high scenario, don’t be afraid to act on it. For example, if you have a player who may have lost their starting position but still has value, consider trading that player before it’s obvious that his value is lowered.

In dynasty fantasy football, you also need to pay attention to the NFL draft. Read about prospects coming into the NFL. After the draft, see which of the prospects landed on teams where they should be able to produce.
