One of the most top heavy positions in fantasy football in 2009 is the tight end position. While there is talent at the top of the list, the talent is relatively shallow. Here is a look at the best of the best in 2009 fantasy football at the tight end position:

1. Tony Gonzalez, Atlanta Falcons
After being underrated the last few seasons in fantasy football, Tony Gonzalez is impossible to ignore right now. He’s on the Falcons now and could have another huge season.

2. Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers
Even though Antonio Gates struggled with injuries and never seemed to be 100%, he was still solid in 2008. Expect a better year this season.

3. Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys
With Terrell Owens gone to Buffalo, Jason Witten will likely become the number one receiver in Dallas. Tony Romo loves throwing to him so expect big things.

4. Dallas Clark, Indianapolis Colts
Injury is a concern but Dallas Clark is a very good option when he’s healthy. His ceiling is extremely high this season — especially with Marvin Harrison out of the picture.

5. Owen Daniels, Houston Texas
Even though he gets no pub, Owen Daniels is a very solid tight end. He offers a solid point producer in fantasy football at a premium position.

Best Tight Ends in Fantasy Football 2008

Tony Gonzalez, Kansas City Chiefs
In the 2008 fantasy football season, Tony Gonzalez has been far and away the best tight end in the NFL. Even though the Chiefs have gone through three starting quarterbacks, Gonzalez has remained productive. Going forward, he’s definitely the best tight end to own at this point.

Dallas Clark, Indianapolis Colts
To start the season, Dallas Clark got off to an amazingly slow start. He had all the appearances of a draft bust. But in the middle of the season, he started to turn it around as he recovered from an early season injury. Right now, he may arguably be the hottest tight end in the league.

Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers
While Antonio Gates has still been a top flight tight end this season, he’s starting to lose his fantasy football luster. He’s no longer a dominating force and as of late, he’s been extremely average. He doesn’t have a touchdown grab since Week 10.

Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys
Compared to last season, Jason Witten has underperformed. Part of the blame is due to a rib injury that has robbed him of some of his explosiveness. Plus it didn’t help that Tony Romo also missed some time earlier in the season with a pinkie injury.

Fantasy Tight Ends Rankings Updated 2008

1. Jason Witten – Witten is primed to have a huge year.
2. Antonio Gates – Gates is a question mark but he should be fine.
3. Kellen Winslow – Winslow might be the most talented tight end.
4. Tony Gonzalez – The old vet still has some gas left in the tank.
5. Dallas Clark – Clark is underrated heading into 2008.
6. Chris Cooley – Cooley should be very solid.
7. Jeremy Shockey – Shockey is a high risk, high reward pick.
8. Todd Heap – When completely healthy, Heap is very good.
9. Vernon Davis – Vast potential but lacks performance history.
10. Heath Miller – Good choice but limited ceiling in 2008.
