Over the last year, Brandon Jennings has been in the news a lot due to his experience playing in Europe. In summer league, he showed good point guard potential. He averaged 8.2 assists and 3.6 steals per game while proving he may be able to help this year.

Marcus Williams, Memphis Grizzlies
Remember him? Marcus Williams is trying to get back into the NBA. In summer league, he didn’t hurt his chances. He averaged 8.2 assists in less than 30 minutes per game.

Jonny Flynn, Minnesota Timberwolves
While the T’Wolves have been talking about using Jonny Flynn at shooting guard, he showed in summer league that he’s comfortable running the point. In 27.8 minutes per game, he averaged 15 points and 7.4 assists.

Toney Douglas, New York Knicks
While he struggled putting the ball in the basket, Tony Douglas passed the ball very well in summer league. In 29.3 minutes per contest, he averaged 7 assists for the Knicks.

It’s easy to give up on Gilbert Arenas. He’s gone from Agent Zero to Agent Injured. It seems like every other blog he writes is about him undergoing a new surgery. That said, when he’s healthy he has a light greener than just about any player in the NBA. In fantasy basketball, that is gold.

Marcus Williams, Golden State Warriors
Being at the helm of the Golden State Warriors’ run and shoot offense should do wonders for Marcus Williams’ fantasy value. As long as he stays healthy and stays in shape, there’s really no reason for him not to be a huge contributor — until at least Monta Ellis is healthy.

Rodney Stuckey, Detroit Pistons
As a rookie, Rodney Stuckey flashed superstar potential at times. While he’s still stuck in a log jam, that could change at any given time. A trade or an injury could push Stuckey into the starting lineup where he’d do much fantasy basketball damage.

Ramon Sessions, Milwaukee Bucks
Although brief, Ramon Sessions’ stint with the Bucks last season was phenomenal. He looked very good and his stats were off the charts. If he’s given a chance to start during the 2008-09, he might end up the point guard sleeper of all point guard sleepers.

Monta Ellis suffered a high ankle sprain and will need three months to recovery following his ankle surgery. Ellis is all but guaranteed to be out injured when the Golden State Warriors begin their 2008-09 season.
This is bad news for Ellis, especially considering that this forthcoming season was planned to be his breakout season. With Baron Davis gone to the Los Angeles Clippers, Ellis was expected to take over as the team’s starting point guard. Those plans, for now at least, will have to wait.

The players this could help next season are Marcus Williams and Marco Belinelli. Williams will likely start at point guard. The former New Jersey Nets player could begin next season off strong and should be able to produce a high amount of assists. If he plays well enough, Don Nelson may elect to keep him as the starter even once Ellis returns. Belinelli, who is coming off of a disappointing rookie season, also might get a chance to run some point guard.

Expect Ellis to be back somewhere around the first week of December if his rehab goes smoothly. Until then, you can remember his game by watching this Monta Ellis highlight video:

Bibby has been out all season with a thumb injury and is scheduled to be out a while longer.

Mike Bibby, Sacramento Kings
Bibby has been out all season with a thumb injury and is scheduled to be out a while longer. Bibby should get his starting job back when he returns, but newcomer Beno Udrih has been playing well in his place. There’s a chance that Bibby doesn’t play as many minutes as usual once he returns. With that in mind, his fantasy value has to take a big of a hit.

Chucky Atkins, Denver Nuggets
Atkins is out with a groin injury. When he returns, it’s unclear what role he’ll have with the team. Anthony Carter has played well as of late and should continue to see time at point guard. Even before he was injured, Atkins wasn’t expected to start for Denver. As of now, Atkins isn’t worth rostering in most leagues.

Nene, Denver Nuggets
Nene has a thumb injury that should keep him out for at least a couple more weeks. He showed up in camp out of shape, so it’s no guarantee that he’ll step right back into a major role for the Nuggets. Denver has a bunch of quality bigs so as of now, Nene’s fantasy value is actually pretty low.

Larry Hughes, Cleveland Cavaliers
Hughes is out for a couple more weeks with a bruise on his left leg. Ever since he’s come to Cleveland from the Washington Wizards, Hughes has been a disappointment. This season, he’s been worse than ever. Right now, even if he were healthy, he’d probably hurt your fantasy team more than help it.

Marcus Williams, New Jersey Nets
Out with a broken foot since before the season began, Williams should be close to suiting up for the Nets. As the main backup for Jason Kidd, Williams isn’t expected to play major minutes this year. The only way that would change is if he were to prove that he could play next to Kidd on the court.
