6. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers

5. Matt Schaub, Houston Texans
Since Week 1, Matt Schaub has been very good. This week he goes up against the Cincinnati Bengals. While the Bengals aren’t horrible, Schaub should produce.

4. Donovan McNabb, Philadelphia Eagles
We saw what Donovan McNabb is capable of last week after coming off of injury. In Week 6 against the Oakland Raiders, McNabb will be good.

Donovan McNabb - Philadelphia Eagles (Image: Zuma Press)

3. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
Even though the Saints are going against the rugged New York Giants, you have to think that Drew Brees will come ready to play.

2. Tom Brady, New England Patriots
Tom Brady has basically been a disappointment this season. That said, don’t expect him to be disappointing against the Tennessee Titans.

1. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers has been deceptively very good this year. Add in the fact that he’s going up against the Detroit Lions and there should be fireworks for Rodgers in Week 6 of the 2009 fantasy football season.

RB Brian Westbrook, Philadelphia Eagles
When healthy, Brian Westbrook continues to be a beast. In Week 14, Westbrook had over 200 combined rushing and receiving yards and two touchdowns. More impressively, he did that damage against the New York Giants. The best news for Westbrook owners is that he looks healthy and should have a good finish to the season.

WR Brandon Marshall, Denver Broncos
Brandon Marshall had been quiet lately but he stepped up in a big way in Week 14. The Broncos wide receiver had 91 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions. Once upon a time, Marshall was the best wide receiving going in 2008 fantasy football. After this performance, he once again has to be considered elite.

TE Tony Gonzalez, Kansas City Chiefs
As has been the case often this season, Tony Gonzalez was the best tight end in Week 14 of the 2008 fantasy football season. Gonzalez finished the week with 73 yards and a touchdown. He now has at least five receptions for eight consecutive weeks. During that time, he also has five touchdowns.

RB Brandon Jackson, Green Bay Packers
Ryan Grant has had a disappointing season and now he even has an injury. While the injury isn’t considered severe, Brandon Jackson has looked better than Grant for much of the season. Don’t be surprised to see Jackson get the starting job so that the Packers can see what they have in the second-year running back.

WR Davone Bess, Miami Dolphins
Go ahead and pick this guy up if he’s available. Davone Bess is going to get a lot of action the rest of the season and could even become Chad Pennington’s go-to wide receiver. He has good speed and has the potential to break one just about every week.

TE John Carlson, Seattle Seahawks
With Matt Hasselbeck back as the starter at quarterback, the receiving options are more trustworthy for the Seahawks and fantasy football owners alike. John Carlson has had a good rookie season at tight end and should have a good end to his season. With the wide receivers still struggling, Carlson may be Hasselbeck’s best option.

With the Michael Vick chaos slowly becoming a thing of the past, the Atlanta Falcons are trying to move on as best they can. While Vick remains fresh in the minds of their fans, the Falcons have to begin re-assembling their team.

The Falcons have the third pick in the 2008 NFL draft and have plenty of directions they can go with the pick. However, the Falcons already made noise this offseason by signing Michael Turner. Turner, who many league experts think was the best running back on the open market, was signed to become the team’s new starting running back. After beginning his career with the San Diego Chargers behind LaDainian Tomlinson, Turner will try to prove he’s an every-down back with Atlanta.

Since the Falcons now have Turner and returning running back Jerious Norwood under contract, chances are the Falcons won’t look to draft a running back with the third pick of the draft. That means Darren McFadden will almost positively not be their pick.

Although they have good options at running back, quarterback still remains a big weakness for the Falcons. Last season, the Falcons lost both Vick and his backup (Matt Schaub). After trying various players at the quarterback position in 2007, the Falcons currently have Chris Redman and Joey Harrington signed. While both of those players are decent backup quarterbacks, the Falcons desperately need a franchise quarterback.

With that in mind, Matt Ryan is the obvious choice for the Falcons with the third overall pick. Ryan, the number one rated quarterback in the 2008 NFL draft, has played well in front of scouts and most experts expect him to go in the top ten. If Ryan is on the board, he’d be a very nice pick for the Falcons. If Ryan isn’t on the board, defensive players Chris Long and Glenn Dorsey would make sense.

QB Matt Schaub, Houston Texans – Schaub left the game on Sunday with a dislocated left shoulder. The Texans are hoping that it isn’t a season ending injury. Schaub’s backup is Sage Rosenfels, who has actually played pretty well in relief. That said, Houston and their offense is best with Schaub at the helm.

RB Derrick Ward, New York Giants – The official report on Ward is an ankle injury. However, there are reports out of New York that Ward broke his fibula. If that’s the case, Ward is obviously out for the season. The Giants, whose regular starting running back Brandon Jacobs has a hamstring injury, had to depend on Rueben Droughns in Week 13.

RB LenDale White, Tennessee Titans – White suffered a dislocated finger in the game against the Texans. While his status is uncertain for Week 14, he should be okay to go. A dislocated finger isn’t a pleasant injury but it isn’t too serious for a running back in the NFL. However, if White does miss the game, expect Chris Brown to get the start.

RB Jesse Chatman, Miami Dolphins – Chatman entered the week banged up and left the game with an ankle injury. With Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams out for the season, the Dolphins’ backfield is getting amazingly thin. Next in line appears to be Samkon Gado.

WR Roy Williams, Detroit Lions – Williams sprained his knee in the Lions loss against the Minnesota Vikings. Williams tried to return to the game but his knee injury wouldn’t let him get back on the field. If Williams misses any action, the Lions have three wide receivers (Calvin Johnson, Mike Furrey and Shaun McDonald) who should all get more passes thrown their way.

WR Anquan Boldin, Arizona Cardinals – Boldin suffered a dislocated toe on his left foot versus the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. He was forced to leave the game and was unable to return. With Larry Fitzgerald also injured, that catapulted Bryant Johnson into the top receiver spot. Keep an eye on the practice reports this week to see if Boldin or Fitzgerald is going to be ready next week for Arizona.

RB Kolby Smith, Kansas City Chiefs – Larry Johnson appears to possibly be out for the season. Priest Holmes re-injured his neck and may be forced to retire. That leaves Kolby Smith as the starting running back for the Chiefs. Although he’s far from a household name, Smith has shown some flashes of competency. Not only should you pick him up, he’s actually a good start this week versus the Oakland Raiders.

WR Reggie Williams, Jacksonville Jaguars – Williams is about as inconsistent as any player in the NFL. Some games he’s brilliant and appears to be a budding star, while other games he looks absolutely horrible. If you pickup Williams and start him, you just have to hope you start him in one of those good weeks. Those good weeks should be more common with David Garrard back at the helm for Jacksonville.

TE Alex Smith, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Smith gets a good amount of looks in the red zone and he’s one a very sound football team. The Bucs have a plan offensively and they stick to it. Luckily for Smith, he seems to be an important part for the team, especially around the endzone. Tampa Bay has a great schedule to end the season, which makes Smith an even better waiver wire pickup.

QB Matt Schaub, Houston Texans – Schaub is a forgotten man in the fantasy football world. He started off the season strong but has fizzled over the last month or so. The good news for him is his number one wide receiver Andre Johnson is schedule to return this week, which should really help his fantasy numbers. If Schaub has been dropped in your league, he’s a very good waiver wire pickup at this point.

QB Jason Campbell, Washington Redskins – Campbell finally looked comfortable throwing the ball on Sunday. He had a season-high three touchdown passes and really looked steady. Although his wide receivers are banged up, Campbell is the type of quarterback that could get hot down the stretch run of the season and carry a fantasy team.

RB Chester Taylor, Minnesota Vikings – With Adrian Peterson missing at least this coming week and possibly longer, Taylor is a very good waiver wire pickup. He’ll get the bulk of the carries for the Vikings. Since the Vikings have little passing game to speak of, he should see the ball plenty. Taylor is also a receiving threat out of the backfield, so he can get you fantasy points in that aspect, as well.

RB Maurice Morris, Seattle Seahawks – Shaun Alexander has a knee injury and has looked horrible for the most part this season. With Morris in the starting lineup and receiving the bulk of the carries, the Seahawks offense looked much improved. Morris isn’t much of a touchdown threat but he should produce while Alexander is sidelined. There is even a chance he could remain the starter when Alexander returns if the coaches decide Morris gives the team a better chance to win.

WR Javon Walker, Denver Broncos – Walker was a star fantasy wide receiver last year for the Broncos but has battled a knee injury this season. However, Walker is expected to return at some point over the next couple weeks. When he’s back in the lineup, he should become a rather good fantasy wide receiver right away. If you have an extra roster spot and Walker is on the waiver wire, consider picking him up.

WR Mark Clayton, Baltimore Ravens – Clayton was a fine fantasy wide receiver last season but has been hobbled all year this season. Although he didn’t miss any miss any games, Clayton was too injured to provide much offense. However, in Week 10, Clayton looked to be back healthy. He finished the game with eight catches and 107 yards.

Be sure to keep an eye out for reports on the following players and be prepared to grab their backups off the waiver wire.

QB Matt Schaub, Houston Texans – Schaub left the game after taking a hard hit. Schaub, who has been hit hard a lot recently, entered the game at less than 100%. His latest injury is unknown but there is talk of a concussion.

QB Trent Edwards, Buffalo Bills – Edwards, a rookie quarterback out of Stanford, suffered a sprained wrist in Week 8. JP Losman came in and responded with a long pass to Lee Evans. It’s unknown how long Edwards is to be sidelined.

QB Kelly Holcomb, Minnesota Vikings – Holcomb was in the game replacing the injured Tavaris Jackson. He suffered a neck injury that could sideline him for a while. Expect Brooks Bollinger to get the start next week for the Vikings.

QB Vinny Testaverde, Carolina Panthers – Testaverde left the game against the Colts with what is being reported as an Achilles injury. Since Testaverde has so much mileage on him, it’s going to be tough for him to recover from any type of injury. David Carr should become the starter now for the Panthers.

RB Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers – Gore aggravated his ankle injury in the game against the Saints. His status for Week 9 is unknown at this time. If he’s unable to go, look at Michael Robinson and Maurice Hicks as players who would replace him.

RB Steven Jackson, St. Louis Rams – Jackson was back in the Rams lineup after missing time with a groin injury. After scoring an early touchdown, Jackson injured his back and missed the rest of the game. His status heading into Week 9 is unknown.

RB Reggie Bush, New Orleans Saints – Bush left late in the game with what is believed to be a minor rib injury. However, be sure to keep an eye on him because rib injuries are tough to deal with if you are an NFL running back.

Leftwich injured his right ankle in his first start of the season with the Falcons. Leftwich has never been a sturdy option at quarterback and it appears he could be out for a while. If he is, Joey Harrington would likely get his job back.

QB Matt Schaub, Houston Texans
Schaub was hurt a couple of times on Sunday. He ended the day with an injured ankle and an injured hip. His status for Week 8 is unknown at this point.

QB Byron Leftwich, Atlanta Falcons
Leftwich injured his right ankle in his first start of the season with the Falcons. Leftwich has never been a sturdy option at quarterback and it appears he could be out for a while. If he is, Joey Harrington would likely get his job back.

RB Ronnie Brown, Miami Dolphins
Brown hurt his knee in the game against the Patriots and missed the rest of the game. There is some talk that this could be a major injury, which could be devastating to Brown owners. Jesse Chatman would likely get the start if Brown is unable to go.

WR Michael Clayton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Clayton has been a disappointment ever since his big rookie season. Against the Lions, Clayton injured an ankle after catching a pass. He’s not much of a fantasy player at this point and if he’s out, it wouldn’t change much for the Bucs on offense.

TE Tony Scheffler, Denver Broncos
Scheffler had an expanded role for the Broncos on Sunday night after being slowed early in the year by injuries. He was playing well in his increased role before injury his foot in the fourth quarter. His status for Week 8 is unclear.
