Best NBA Rookies 2008 – Fantasy Basketball

1. Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls
A lot of NBA scouts thought Derrick Rose may need a year or two before he was ready to shine in the NBA. They were wrong. This Bulls rookie point guard is already the best player on his team and he’ll be a top five fantasy point guard before too much longer.
2. OJ Mayo, Memphis Grizzlies
While the Grizzlies aren’t that good, OJ Mayo is putting on a show. He’s proving to be a very good scorer on the NBA level. Surprisingly his shooting percentages are healthy and he’s doing a good job of not turning the …read more

Best Fantasy Rookies – Early Analysis

Which fantasy basketball rookies are off to a good start in the NBA? Here’s a look at our early top five:
1. Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls
Coming into the NBA, everyone knew Derrick Rose could pass the ball. What is surprising NBA scouts is his ability to score the ball. He uses his combination of quickness and strength to get to the rim and score against bigger defenders. Since he’s starting and already playing big minutes, he’s not only looking like a good fantasy basketball player but also the lead candidate for Rookie of the Year.
2. Michael Beasley, Miami Heat
Although he has …read more

Shawn Marion, Miami Heat
Although Shawn Marion is usually one of the safer bets in all of fantasy basketball, his situation just isn’t as great as usual this year. He no longer has Steve Nash helping him out and is instead in a lame duck type situation with the Heat due to his expiring contract. Not only that, the Heat have a lot of players that could get time at the forward positions including Michael Beasley, Udonis Haslem, James Jones, Dorell Wright and Yakhouba Diawara.
Carlos Boozer, Utah Jazz
Before you look at his stats and conclude that he had a good season …read more

LaMarcus Aldridge, Portland Trail Blazers
Although Greg Oden is getting most of the publicity, LaMarcus Aldridge very well could be the better player during the 2008-09 fantasy basketball season. He’s a player that seems to be improving each time he steps out onto the court and could become a star in his third season.
Michael Beasley, Miami Heat
Most league pundits expect Michael Beasley to put up decent stats. But don’t forget that this sleeper was just a certified beast as a freshman in college. If he can adapt quickly to the NBA, he could end up the year as a top eight …read more

NBA Rookie of the Year Favorites for 2009

5) Rudy Fernandez, Portland Trail Blazers
Although it’s definitely a long shot, Rudy Fernandez has a chance to win the 2008-09 NBA Rookie of the Year award. He’s the most hyped player coming from the NBA from Europe and showed in the Olympics that he has an immense amount of talent.
4) Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls
The number one pick of the 2008 NBA Draft doesn’t have the best chance of winning the award for the NBA’s best rookie. He’s playing on a team that has a lot of good players and he may not be forced into a large amount of minutes …read more

However, Beasley had the last laugh as the Miami Heat beat the Chicago Bulls by a final score of 94-70. In 23 minutes, Beasley scored 28 points and handily outplayed Derrick Rose — the player who went before Beasley in the 2008 NBA Draft. Rose finished with ten points, five turnovers and four assists.

OJ Mayo – 2008 NBA Draft Profile

OJ Mayo – 2008 NBA Draft Profile

OJ Mayo is one of the most exciting players available in the 2008 NBA Draft. Mayo is a combo guard who excels at scoring. While he has the potential to buy some minutes at point guard, Mayo’s biggest strength in the NBA will likely be his ability to score the ball.
Mayo entered the college basketball season as perhaps the most highly regarded prospect in all of college basketball. But at USC Mayo struggled a bit and his draft stock began to drop. But as the season went on, Mayo’s stock began to rise once again.

Derrick Rose Official Measurements – 2008 NBA Draft

Derrick Rose, who is expected to be the first overall pick of the 2008 NBA draft, measured out as a very good athlete in the NBA pre-draft camp in Orlando. The only drawback for Rose in the measurement process was his height.
Rose was usually listed at 6-foot-4. However, his official measurements came out to 6-foot-1 1/2 without shoes and 6-foot-2 1/2 with shoes. Although that one and a half inches isn’t huge, it might be enough to force him to be a full-time point guard instead of a combo guard.
The good news for Rose was …read more
