Mitre has most recently made news for getting suspended 50 games for testing positive in the MLB’s drug program. In the minor leagues this season, he had a 1.93 ERA in Single-A and a 2.40 ERA in Triple-A.

While his minor league numbers look good, don’t expect him to be much of a fantasy baseball savior. His best year was in 2007 and he wasn’t even that good. In 27 starts, he had a 5-8 record with a 4.65 ERA. In 149 innings, he had only 80 strikeouts.

Mitre’s main value in fantasy baseball would simply be the fact that he pitches for the Yankees and could pick up a few wins for your fantasy team while Chien-Ming Wang is out. There’s a chance that Mitre could surprise and stick in the starting rotation, but don’t count on it.

The good news for fantasy baseball owners is that Sabathia says the injury is minor. In fact, reports indicate that he didn’t even want leave the mound.
Said Sabathia: “It wasn’t a sharp pain or anything. It just felt a little tight. It’s something I felt before, between starts or something. It’s nothing major.”

Prior to leaving the game, Sabathia pitched 1.1 innings while giving up three hits and one earned runs. For the season, he is 6-4 with a 3.71 ERA. Prior to the season, the Yankees signed Sabathia to a deal that will pay him more than $161 million over the next seven years.

Without Sabathia on Sunday, the Yankees ended up losing to the Marlins by a final count of 6-5. The Yankees are now 38-31, while the Marlins are 35-36.

Alex Rodriguez is ready to return. On Friday, he’ll return to the New York Yankees lineup and will likely be on the field at third base. Rodriguez has been sidelined the entire season due to offseason hip surgery.
Without their superstar third baseman, the Yankees are 13-15 on the season and are currently in fourth place in the AL East — 5.5 games behind the division leading Toronto Blue Jays.

For those in the fantasy baseball world who have patiently been waiting for A-Rod to return, what can they expect to get out of him the rest of the way? Considering that Rodriguez has missed about 18% of the season, I’d predict the following stats the rest of the way:

Batting average – .295
On-base percentage – .390
Home runs – 30
RBIs – 100
Runs – 100
Doubles – 27
Stolen bases – 10

For fantasy owners, the biggest hope is that Rodriguez can stay healthy the rest of the way. If he re-injures the hip, there’s a chance that the Yankees could shut him down for the rest of the season.
