The Packers, who lost Brett Favre to retirement recently, will be going with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. However, with Rodgers’ injury history, the Packers need plenty of depth. That’s where Culpepper would come into play.

In 2007, Culpepper was on the Oakland Raiders. He had a few decent games but overall was a disappointment. In 2006, Culpepper spent a disappointing season with the Miami Dolphins. However, as recently as 2004, Culpepper was a fantastic fantasy quarterback. In that year with the Minnesota Vikings, Culpepper had 39 touchdowns and 4,717 yards.

If Culpepper doesn’t sign with the Packers, there are a few other teams that may be interested. The Baltimore Ravens could be in the market for a veteran quarterback after Steve McNair retired.

No matter where Culpepper signs, expect him to get guaranteed money for only one season.

Just for fun… Culpepper to Moss:

Tom Brady’s ankle injury shouldn’t hinder him during the NFL offseason, according to a recent report. Brady had his ankle checked on and it appears to be mostly healed.

Brady’s ankle came into the news around the time of the Super Bowl when photographers spotted Brady with a cast on his ankle prior to the big game. Brady dismissed the injury, however there has been some talk that the ankle injury slowed him in the Super Bowl.

Coming off of a record breaking season, Brady’s ankle being healthy is very good news. Although, the biggest news of the offseason for Brady was that the New England Patriots re-signed Randy Moss.

Heading into the 2008 NFL season, Brady has to be considered a first round fantasy football pick. He won’t top his 2007 numbers in all likelihood but he should once again have a dominating season. The Brady to Moss connection should still be strong, with the Brady to Wes Welker connection not being too shabby either.

Laveranues Coles’ future with the New York Jets was somewhat in doubt – until the team recently guaranteed the rest of his contract. Coles is now scheduled to make $11 million over the next two seasons.

In fantasy football, Coles had a disappointing 2007 campaign. He battled various injuries and finished the season with 55 catches, 646 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. While his per game production wasn’t bad, fantasy football owners were no doubt hoping for more.

However, 2008 should be a nice year for Coles. The Jets, as evident by their offseason moves, are in a win-now mode. They don’t care about rebuilding for the future – instead their main focus is putting a playoff team on the field this coming season. Coles should be a big part of that.

The biggest question mark surrounding Coles in 2008 is his quarterback. With Chad Pennington’s time at starter likely over, the job now will fall to Kellen Clemens. While Clemens had his moments over the last couple seasons, he’s still raw.

The good news for Coles is that Clemens should improve on his 2007 play. With that in mind, Coles should be good for 70 catches, 900 yards and eight touchdowns. Those numbers will likely make Coles a sleeper heading into 2008 fantasy football drafts.

Reports indicate that Jones and the Tennessee Titans are looking to go separate ways. To make that happen, the Titans are believed to be shopping the talented defensive back.

A few interesting teams have emerged as suitors for Jones. The Dallas Cowboys are a team that not only have interest in Jones, but also have been mentioned by Jones as one of his preferred destinations. In return for Jones, the Titans would likely ask for a mid-level draft pick.

Another interesting team that supposedly would welcome Jones is the New England Patriots. The Patriots, who had success rehabilitating the career of Randy Moss, are reported to be looking into the possibility of trading for Jones. New England has lost a lost of quality defensive backs in the offseason and could view Jones as a starter in 2008.

In the fantasy football world, Jones is a player to keep an eye on if you are in an IDP league. Jones, although a bit crazy off the field, is extremely talented on the field. He’s a scoring threat on defense because once he intercepts the ball, there are few defensive backs as dangerous as Jones.

In the return game, Jones can be a factor – especially as a punt returner.

Hackett fits the mold of players who have done well next to Smith. He’s big, he’s strong and he’s a threat in the red zone. Since Smith gets so much attention, Hackett should find himself open a lot more than he’s used to. If he can take advantage of that, he’s definitely a 2008 fantasy football sleeper.

Right now, DJ Hackett projects out to about 65 catches, 900 yards and six touchdowns. Those numbers would make him a solid fantasy football option.

No. Muhammad, who is 34-years-old, has slowed down in recent years. Next to Steve Smith, Muhammad will be lucky to put up the numbers that Keyshawn Johnson put up in his last few years with the Panthers. Besides, that 2004 campaign appears to be a fluke season for Muhammad. That was not only his career-high in yards, the 16 touchdowns were double his second best season in the NFL.

As a late round flyer, Muhammad could be a decent fantasy football pick in 2008. But don’t expect more than 900 yards and six touchdowns at of him.

While the trade was relatively minor, Troy Williams from the Minnesota Vikings to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a draft pick is at least notable in the fantasy football world. While Williamson never came close to living up to expectations for the Vikings, he’ll get a fresh start with the Jaguars.

The Jaguars have yet to fully recover from Jimmy Smith’s retirement before the start of the 2006 season. While they have great size at the position, they haven’t really had a legitimate deep ball threat. Williamson can be that deep ball threat for Jacksonville.

David Garrard showed he’s a very capable NFL quarterback last year and he can throw the long ball with ease. Whether Williamson will be one of the receivers looking to catch those passes isn’t 100% certain yet. He’ll have to make the team and then even at that point, to be relevant in fantasy football, Williamson will need to win a starting spot.

While that’s a longshot at this point, Williamson has the talent and the skillset to be what the Jaguars have long been looking for in a wide receiver.

For what seems like forever, Eddie Kennison has been a part of the Kansas City Chiefs’ passing game. While he hasn’t been the greatest option in fantasy football over the years, he’s had his moments.

Now that he’s free on the open market, Kennison likely will sign with another team to be a third receiver. If he’s lucky he might get a look as a second receiver but his age makes him most valuable in a reserve role.

As far as the Chiefs are concerned, they should be fine without Kennison. Dwayne Bowe was a stud last year as a rookie and should continue his studly ways in year number two. With Kennison gone, he’ll for sure be the team’s leading wide receiver threat.

With Bowe and tight end Tony Gonzalez likely seeing most of the passes, there isn’t much room for a great second receiver on this team. Perhaps one will emerge but right now, there isn’t a leader for that job.

Speaking of Dwayne Bowe, here are some of his highlights from 2007 …

The superstar rookie suffered a sprained right knee in the third quarter. He’ll undergo an MRI on Monday as fantasy owners around the world hold their breath.
RB LenDale White, Tennessee Titans
White left the game against the Jaguars with a knee injury. The extent of the injury isn’t known at the moment. If he can’t play in Week 11, that’ll be a huge blow for the Titans.

QB Damon Huard, Kansas City Chiefs
Huard left the game with a head injury. He played very poorly before being replaced and could be benched for good even if he’s healthy for Week 11.

WR James Thrash, Washington Redskins
After catching two touchdown passes, Thrash injured his ankle in the fourth quarter. While it’s unknown how serious the injury is, he seemed to be in a lot of pain.

WR Brandon Jones, Tennessee Titans
Jones left the game with a concussion. With Denver on the schedule for Week 11, Jones would be a decent emergency start next week if he’s healthy enough to play.
