WR Brandon Marshall, Denver Broncos
Not only was Brandon Marshall’s performance the best of the week, it was one of the best performances of all-time. He set an all-time record by catching 21 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns.

TE Dallas Clark, Indianapolis Colts
Even though Dallas Clark only had five catches for 43 yards, three of those five catches were for touchdowns. That made his fantasy owners very, very happy this week.

QB Chris Redman, Atlanta Falcons – Redman is an intriguing option this week. He’s likely to get his first start this week after playing rather well last game coming from off the bench. Against the St. Louis Rams, Redman had two touchdowns and had a quarterback rating of nearly 100. This week he plays the struggling Atlanta Falcons defense, which is very poor against the pass. Redman is the definition of a boom or bust start this week.

RB Chris Brown, Tennessee Titans – Brown shouldn’t be considered unless you are in a true emergency. But if there aren’t any starters on the waiver wire for you to pickup, Brown is a good start for a backup. LenDale White is banged up and Brown has run well this year, averaging nearly five yards per carry. If White’s carries are limited, Brown should produce quite nicely.

WR Joe Jurevicius, Cleveland Browns – Jurevicius is a solid start this week against the Jets. He has always been a good red zone threat and this week the Browns should see the red zone quite a bit. Another plus is that Braylon Edwards is a bit banged up, which should allow a few more passes to come to Jurevicius. If you are looking for a nice option at your third wide receiver slot, think about picking up this guy.

TE Leonard Pope, Arizona Cardinals – With Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald both battling injuries, Pope could very well become Kurt Warner’s best option in the red zone. Pope has shown the ability to get open in the endzone this year. While he’s not a threat to catch a lot of passes, he is a threat to catch a touchdown – especially with the star wide receivers for the Cardinals ailing.

Campbell got hurt in the Thursday night game against the Chicago Bears. Preliminary reports indicate that Campbell will be out a while, perhaps the rest of the regular season. In his place, the Redskins will start Todd Collins at quarterback. That’s bad news for Campbell owners because he had started to produce as of late. Collins isn’t startable due to the poor receivers on Washington.

Reggie Bush, New Orleans Saints
Reports out of New Orleans indicate that Bush has a partially torn tendon in his knee and is almost certainly out this weekend. There are also reports indicating that Bush may be forced to miss the rest of the season. This is obviously devastating news for Bush owners and the Saints. To replace him the Saints will probably call on Aaron Stecker and Pierre Thomas to carry the load.

Jesse Chatman, Miami Dolphins
It’s sounding less and less likely that Chatman will play this week for the Dolphins. If he doesn’t, it appears as if Samkon Gado will get the start for Miami. Against the Buffalo Bills, either player would be a decent start. Keep an eye on the injury reports to see which of the two will start.

Marshawn Lynch, Buffalo Bills
Lynch has been practicing lately and appears likely to play. However, the Bills could still opt to hold him out one more week. Since Lynch is a rookie and the Bills face an uphill climb to make the playoffs, it makes the most sense to be cautious with him. If he doesn’t play, his backup Fred Jackson is a nice start against the Dolphins.

Scobee is healthy and kicking well. This week the Jaguars face the Carolina Panthers. While their defense isn’t as good as it’s been in recent years, the Panthers aren’t totally inept. That should allow Scobee to get a couple field goal attempts this game, at least.

You can’t ask more a much better matchup than the Miami Dolphins at home. Lindell should get plenty of chances this game against the winless Dolphins. The Bills offense isn’t very good, which is always a kicker’s best friend. Look for three field goals this week.

D Buffalo Bills
To further take advantage of this great matchup against the Dolphins, consider picking up the Bills D. The Bills are still in the playoff race and really need to win this game. While their defense isn’t great, it’s going up against perhaps the worst offense in the NFL.

D New Orleans Saints
The Saints are another team who really need to win this week. With their playoff chances fading, the Saints are basically in a must win this week against the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons offense is pretty poor and while the Saints defense is also poor, they are capable of coming up with big plays.

By Guest Blogger, Ron Bishow

According to a recent report by a Chicago-based employment research firm, fantasy football costs $1.1 billion in lost productivity per week for companies during the NFL season.

Fantasy players spend 10 minutes per day, or almost an hour a week, drafting players, setting rosters and plotting strategy at the office. And that doesn’t even factor in the time they are spending when they are home plotting for next week.

The reason I am stating these facts is because, as many of you know from your own lives, millions of us devote a considerable amount of time making sure our team on Sunday has the best chance to win. Sometimes there is a lot of money on the line, sometimes it is just for bragging rights, but it is almost a part-time job.

But does all that really help? On the surface, as with most things, proper preparation and research always increases your chance of winning. As a counter point however I would like to introduce the case of my boss.

My boss is an avid NFL fan, he follows it religiously, especially the New York Jets (tough year for him). He also had spent the last few years making fun of the rest of us in the office for playing fantasy football, largely because he didn’t see the point in wasting that much time on it.

So this year he was finally convinced to join a league, but to say he participated in it would be an exaggeration. He did not do the live online draft or even rank his players, and he has yet to this day logged on to his team. That’s right, he doesn’t know who he drafted, doesn’t know what any of them have done, and has told the other people in the league not to tell him who his on his team. He does however know he has LT because he had the first pick in the draft.

Now for the really amazing part, he is in first place at 9-4. I didn’t even believe it till someone else in my office that is in his league showed me the standings. So even with players on byes, injuries, and match up issues being completely disregarded he still is the top team.

I had to just sit there and reflect on all the hours I put in thinking about if I should play so and so because of the defense he is going again, or picking up a defense because mine is on a bye to get to my 9-4 record in my one league. Could have just left the team on autopilot and achieved the same thing?

Of course if he did that every year he would probable finished last nine-out-of-ten times, but the fact that it could happen once has to make you think about the possibility you are over thinking things. It’s like when a girl goes to the race track and picks a 40-1 horse because they are pretty and it wins, or picks the NCAA Tournament by the location of the schools. At the end of the day fantasy sports is still gambling and in correlation based on luck as much as it is on skill, which helps account for how I am 12-1 in a league where I am ninth out of twelve teams in total points. Or how picking Tom Brady this season became the biggest fantasy coup ever and picking Larry Johnson and Steve Smith was pretty much a waste.

Well, I better cap off this blog, have to get to the waiver wire before it is too late.

He is such a fantasy sports fanatic he plays fantasy NASCAR.

QB Luke McCown, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
With Jeff Garcia sidelined, McCown stepped in for the Bucs and played great in the team’s victory. McCown threw for two touchdowns and for over 320 yards. However, Garcia might come back this week from his back injury. If you pickup McCown, he’d be a decent start in Week 14 if Garcia isn’t able to go.

RB Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills
Jackson had a very good game against the Washington Redskins on Sunday. He finished with 82 yards rushing and 69 yards receiving. In Week 14, he’d be a rather nice start against the Miami Dolphins. The bad news for Jackson is that Marshawn Lynch might return from his ankle injury.

WR Bryant Johnson, Arizona Cardinals
Anquan Boldin suffered a toe injury in Week 13, while Larry Fitzgerald was out injured prior to the game. Suddenly, Johnson was the number one receiver on the Cardinals. Heading into Week 14, it appears as if Boldin won’t be able to play and Fitzgerald isn’t a certainty, either. If one or both of those stud receivers misses the game, Fitzgerald suddenly becomes a quality fantasy football starter.

TE Desmond Clark, Chicago Bears
Clark has quietly become a fantasy option again. While Greg Olsen has gotten a lot of the tight end looks of late, Clark has been productive over the last couple weeks. After getting 61 yards in Week 12, Clark finished with five catches, 76 yards and a touchdown in Week 13. In Week 14, he’s a decent enough start against the Washington Redskins.
