This year, there don’t seem to be kickers in fantasy football that are heads and shoulders above the rest. That said, there are definitely a few kickers that have more value heading into the 2009 fantasy season. Here’s a look at the top of our 2009 fantasy football kicker ranking:

Even though the Patriots don’t have Tom Brady, they’ve been able to find ways to move the ball. Kicker Stephen Gostkowski has taken advantage of 34 of his 37 field goal attempts and all 39 extra points. In Week 16, he had his best fantasy scoring game of the season against the Arizona Cardinals.

So far we have looking at updated quarterback rankings, updated running back rankings and updated wide receiver rankings for fantasy football 2008. Here are the updated kicker rankings:
1. Nick Folk – Folk and the Cowboys should score plenty in 2008.
2. Nate Kaeding – Look for Kaeding to bounce back this season.
3. Shayne Graham – Graham always seems to be a solid option.
4. Rob Bironas – Can Bironas keep it up?
5. Stephen Gostkowski – Gostkowski has a very high ceiling in 2008.

Against the Texans with Vince Young’s status in doubt, Bironas should see the field quite a bit. This game promises to be a low scoring affair that could be won by the leg of a kicker. Bironas has been solid this season and while he’s not a great long-term kicker, he’s a nice play this week.
