1. Los Angeles Lakers
With recent wins against the Celtics and Cavaliers, the Lakers have cemented their place at the top of the 2009 NBA Power Rankings for a while. Kobe Bryant is playing MVP level basketball and has to be considered a 2009 NBA MVP favorite.
2. Boston Celtics
Despite recent Lakers and the Spurs, the defending NBA champions are still a great basketball team. Once the playoffs start, Boston will once again be an extremely tough team to eliminate. Right now, they are suffering a bit because their defense has dropped off as of late.

C Erick Dampier, Dallas Mavericks
Since Jason Kidd has been brought onboard, perhaps no Dallas Maverick has seen his production rise as much as Erick Dampier. The Mavs’ starting center is shooting over 70% as of late and he’s becoming a nice fantasy option right now. Expect him to remain consistently good for the rest of the season.

Kevin Garnett and Tony Parker Injury Update

When the San Antonio Spurs and the Boston Celtics played on Sunday, both teams were missing integral parts of their team. For the Celtics, it was superstar bigman Kevin Garnett. The Spurs, on the other hand, were missing point guard Tony Parker.
Although Garnett is sidelined with an abdominal strain and Parker is out with an ankle injury, both players seem to be in the same point. Doc Rivers and Gregg Popovich are both indicating that their star player is out until after the All-Star break. However, both should be able to return at some point right after the break.

Tuesday’s NBA Preseason Action

Another day of preseason action featuring some teams who are getting on the court for the first time this season. I’ll highlight a player from each team that showed some fantasy promise.
Marcus Camby, Denver Nuggets
Talk about a good opener to a season. Even though it’s only preseason, Camby showed his fantasy potential by pulling down 23 rebounds in only 25 minutes of action. As always, if Camby stays healthy he’s a great fantasy player. He can rebound, block shots and isn’t horrible in any aspect of his game. The problem has always been his health, or lack thereof.
