Larry Fitzgerald Injury – Fantasy View

The Arizona Cardinals were dominated by the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. Even though the Cardinals were humbled by the 24-9 defeat, they were more concerned with the health of Larry Fitzgerald. Their star wide receiver was forced to leave the game with a sprained right knee in the third quarter.

Thankfully for the Cardinals, Fitzgerald and his fantasy owners, he was able to return to the game. Although he didn’t catch another pass and finished with just 22 receiving yards on the game, the fact that he was able to get back on the field likely means that he avoided serious injury.

Next week, the Cardinals face the Detroit Lions so if Fitzgerald is banged up at all, Arizona may opt to sit him. For fantasy football purposes, that would raise the value of Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston. If Fitzgerald is able to play, expect him to have a big game against Detroit’s shaky defense.

RB Mewelde Moore, Pittsburgh Steelers
When Willie Parker was injured earlier in the season, Mewelde Moore came up huge and led the Steelers to a number of victories. Although his role is now reduced, he definitely has big play potential as a runner, receiving and a returner.

WR Steve Breaston, Arizona Cardinals
With Anquan Boldin still not 100% and Larry Fitzgerald demanding a huge amount of attention, Steve Breaston could find himself more open than usual. Breaston is a threat in Arizona’s vertical passing game and is also big enough to be an end zone threat.

WR Santonio Holmes, Pittsburgh Steelers
Hines Ward has stated that he will play in the Super Bowl but it’s unknown how healthy he will be. With that in mind, Santonio Holmes has a chance to be the featured offensive player for Pittsburgh. In the playoffs so far, Holmes has been extremely explosive and has illustrated his vast potential.

Waiver Wire Week 5 Sleepers – 2008 Fantasy

QB Kyle Orton, Chicago Bears
Kyle Orton pleased his fantasy football owners with a three touchdown performance in Week 4. In Week 5, Orton goes against the Detroit Lions, which makes him a nice waiver wire pickup.

RB Mewelde Moore, Pittsburgh Steelers
Willie Parker is hurt and Rashard Mendenhall is now also hurt and out for the season. That leaves the running back job in Pittsburgh to Mewelde Moore. He may be startable until Parker returns.

WR Steve Breaston, Arizona Cardinals
With Anquan Boldin getting injured in Week 4, Steve Breaston will likely move into a starting gig for as long as Boldin is out. In the high-powered Cardinals offense, that is a very good thing.

WR Lance Moore, New Orleans Saints
Marques Colston and Jeremy Shockey are injured and David Patten isn’t 100%. Lance Moore has now emerged as one of the players who Drew Brees will feature in New Orleans.

TE Dustin Keller, New York Jets
For the second consecutive week, Dustin Keller scored a touchdown. Even though he’s headed into a bye week, Keller is a tight end to keep an eye on.
