Even if you like your roster, finding a sleeper could still mean the difference between winning your fantasy basketball championship and flaming out early. Here’s a look at some fantasy NBA sleepers that could help you in your drive to a championship:
Francisco Garcia, Sacramento Kings
Although Garcia’s minutes have been somewhat erratic, he’s a fantasy basketball dream if he gets the playing time. He can help you in a number of categories and is capable of exploding for huge outings.

Even if you like your roster, finding a sleeper could still mean the difference between winning your fantasy basketball championship and flaming out early. Here’s a look at some fantasy NBA sleepers that could help you in your drive to a championship:

Francisco Garcia - Fantasy Basketball Sleeper (Image: Newscom)

Francisco Garcia, Sacramento Kings
Although Garcia’s minutes have been somewhat erratic, he’s a fantasy basketball dream if he gets the playing time. He can help you in a number of categories and is capable of exploding for huge outings.

Hilton Armstrong, New Orleans Hornets
With the health of Tyson Chandler a question mark, Armstrong has emerged as an interesting center option. While he is still raw, he has shown the potential to put up points, rebounds and blocks in a hurry.

Thabo Sefolosha, Oklahoma City Thunder
Since coming over from the Bulls, the entire state of Oklahoma has fallen in love with Sefolosha. He fits perfectly next to Kevin Durant and Jeff Green and appears to be a player who has a bright future.

Craig Smith, Minnesota Timberwolves
The T’Wolves continue to look for a player capable of filling the giant shoes of Al Jefferson. Smith is an explosive option off the bench. He can use his strong body to score down low and battle on the boards.

After an exhaustive search, the Chicago Bulls have finally settled on a new head coach. Vinny Del Negro, who was most currently employed by the Phoenix Suns in their front office, will be the head coach for Chicago in the 2008-09 season.

Del Negro has never coached before but he’s respected around the NBA for having a good basketball mind. He’s also regarded as a good communicator.

In the fantasy world, this is good news for the Bulls. Coming from the Suns, one would expect Del Negro to push the tempo. As a player, Del Negro was always best when he could get out on the court and run. Like Mike D’Antoni, Del Negro also has experience playing in Europe.

If the Bulls do turn into a running team under Del Negro, that will most help the athletic runners on Chicago such as Joakim Noah, Tyrus Thomas and Thaba Sefolosha. The Bulls are expected to take Derrick Rose with the first pick of the 2008 NBA Draft and Rose would definitely excel in an uptempo attack.

While this may be a shaky hire in terms of getting wins in the NBA, this is very good news for the fantasy basketball world.

It’s time for Vinny to put down the golf clubs and pick up the dry erase board.

Marko Jaric, Minnesota Timberwolves
Jaric is a bit of a combo guard for the Timberwolves. Offensively, Jaric mostly plays point guard, while defensively he’s a shooting guard. The result is Jaric is able to put up nice numbers in a lot of statistics. He’s not going to be a highly consistent player because he’s on a bad team that has a lot of younger guards, but Jaric should be a solid fantasy player from here on out.

Kareem Rush, Indiana Pacers
Rush has been a surprise for the Pacers this season. He has been in and out of the starting lineup but he has a chance of locking down a starting spot. He can really shoot it and his three-point shooting can help any fantasy team. He doesn’t give you much more than points and three-pointers but he’s good enough at those two facets to be rosterable.

Thabo Sefolosha, Chicago Bulls
Sefolosha is now starting for the Bulls and has turned his season around. He was horrible for much of the start of the season but now is putting up good stats. He can score, get rebounds, get assists and can even mix in a few blocks and steals. If he can continue his upward climb, he could become a nice fantasy option down the stretch run of the season.

JR Smith, Denver Nuggets
Smith is doing next to nothing for the Nuggets. He just doesn’t seem to fit into what George Karl wants. That said, Smith is on the trading block and is likely to be dealt. If he lands on a team that is desperate for scoring, Smith is the type of player who could all of a sudden begin to average north of 15 points per game. Keep an eye on him, especially if he changes teams.

Morris Peterson, New Orleans Hornets
Peterson is a solid veteran who has had a quiet season. The Hornets have so many other scoring options that Peterson usually gets lost in the mix. The good news for Peterson is he should get more comfortable as the season progresses. If the Hornets get hit with the injury bug, Peterson is fully capable of stepping up and filling a larger role.
