Best Fantasy Football Players in Week 13

Week 13 of the 2009 fantasy football season was a weird one. There weren’t too many huge individual performances, although there were a number of unexpected outcomes. Here’s a look at the best of the best fantasy football performances this weekend.

QB Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys lost to the Giants but it wasn’t Tony Romo’s fault this time. He was 41-for-55 for 392 yards and three touchdowns. Romo just didn’t get enough help.

RB Jonathan Stewart, Carolina Panthers
With DeAngelo Williams out with an injury, Jonathan Stewart showed off his potential. On 26 carries he had 120 rushing yards and a touchdown. It’s safe to say he’s healthy and a strong play down the stretch.

WR Louis Murphy, Oakland Raiders
Who? Louis Murphy had four catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns to help the Raiders beat the Steelers. Don’t expect this — well, ever again — but the Raiders are definitely in better hands now with Bruce Gradkowski at QB.

TE Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys
Jason Witten had been quiet this season. He awoke from his slumber in Week 13. He had 14 catches for 156 yards. Considering he had 15 catches in his previous three games, his production was a welcome surprise for his fantasy football owners.

Overrated Fantasy Football Players – Week 9

Going with an overrated fantasy football player can make the difference between a victory and a loss. Here’s a look at some overrated players for Week 9 of the 2009 fantasy football season.

QB Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
Although Tony Romo is playing very well as of late, the Cowboys tend to struggle in Philadelphia. Don’t be too high on him solely based on his recent play.

RB Pierre Thomas, New Orleans Saints
Pierre Thomas is scoring touchdowns but he’s quietly losing his grip on the running back job in New Orleans. Mike Bell is getting more than a fair share of carries and Thomas could become a touchdown-or-bust player soon enough.

WR Andre Johnson, Houston Texans
The Colts defense is stout and the loss of Owen Daniels will hurt the Texans — at least in the short term. Don’t expect AJ to explode in Week 9.

TE Kevin Boss, New York Giants
Kevin Boss is coming off of a big game last week but it should be noted that Eli Manning doesn’t appear to be healthy and Boss has been inconsistent.

Top Fantasy Performances – Week 7

In Week 7 of the 2009 fantasy football season, we saw a number of really good fantasy performances. If you had one of these players on your fantasy team, you are probably very happy headed into Monday Night Football.

QB Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
It’s been a slow start to the season for Tony Romo. However, in Week 7, Romo was dominant. He was 21-for-29 for 311 yards and three touchdowns.

RB Shonn Greene, New York Jets
As the Jets were destroying the Oakland Raiders, Greene put his name on the fantasy football map. On 19 carries, Greene had 144 yards and two touchdowns.

WR Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys
For the second straight week, Miles Austin was the best wide receiver in fantasy football. Against the Falcons, Austin had six catches for 171 yards and two touchdowns.

TE Owen Daniels, Houston Texans
The Texans have one of the best passing attacks in the league. Owen Daniels, the team’s starting tight end, is reaping the rewards. In Week 7, Daniels had seven catches for 123 yards and a touchdown.

Hottest Fantasy Football Quarterbacks 2008

Donovan McNabb, Philadelphia Eagles
After being benched for the first time in his NFL career, Donovan McNabb has responded by playing his best football of the season. Over the last three weeks, he’s been a very serviceable fantasy football quarterback. Over that time period, he has seven touchdowns and only one interception.

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
While he may be no Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers is on fire. In his last five games, he has ten touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown. He also has at least 227 passing yards in each of those games. He’s definitely a fantasy football quarterback you can trust on a weekly basis.

Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
Now that he’s getting healthier and healthier after he suffered a broken pinkie, Tony Romo is re-emerging as a fantasy football stud. In his last four games, Romo has nine touchdown passes. In two of those games, he surpassed 330 yards passing. Going forward, Romo remains a top five fantasy quarterback.

Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints
Although he’s had a bit of trouble with interceptions, Drew Brees remains a very good fantasy football start each and every week. In his last four weeks, Brees has ten touchdowns. He had a touchdown in every week this season outside of one week. On the season, he already has 4332 passing yards and 28 touchdowns.

Best Fantasy Football Players in 2008

QB Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
The only thing that was able to slow down Tony Romo this season was an injured pinkie. When healthy, he’s been the best fantasy football quarterback in the NFL. Although Drew Brees, Kurt Warner and Aaron Rodgers haven’t been too shabby, Romo tops them all when he’s on the field.

RB Thomas Jones, New York Jets
After a relatively slow start to the season, Thomas Jones has been on fire recently and now is atop the running back standings for 2008. In the last six weeks, he has scored at least one time in each week. He already has nearly 1100 yards and 13 total touchdowns on the season. His closest competitors on the season are Michael Turner and Brian Westbrook.

WR Anquan Boldin, Arizona Cardinals
Although he missed a few weeks after taking a vicious hit and breaking bones in his face, Anquan Boldin has been a beast when healthy. He has far and away been the best fantasy football wide receiver in 2008. His closest competition is his own teammate Larry Fitzgerald.

TE Tony Gonzalez, Kansas City Chiefs
A lot of fantasy football owners got bored of labeling Tony Gonzalez as the best fantasy football tight end — but he’s atop the tight end rankings once again in 2008. Even though the Chiefs have used three different starting quarterbacks, Gonzalez has thrived no matter who has been throwing the passes. Gonzalez’s closest competition is Antonio Gates and Jason Witten.

Best Fantasy Football Players in Week 13

QB Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
That injured pinkie is now a thing of the past. Tony Romo is playing very well once again and he’s taking advantage of his powerful receiving options including Terrell Owens, Jason Witten and the newly acquired Roy Williams. Expect Romo to be a top five fantasy quarterback from here on out.

RB DeAngelo Williams, Carolina Panthers
Earlier in the season, DeAngelo Williams was almost worthless due to his running back by committee situation. But he’s now thriving with the Panthers and had four touchdowns this weekend. He has to be considered a top ten fantasy running back at the moment.

WR Mark Clayton, Baltimore Ravens
Mark Clayton was all over the field for the Ravens on Sunday. Not only did he having a receiving touchdowns and plenty of receiving yards, he also threw a touchdown pass of his own. While he’s not a great start on a weekly basis, he could be worth the gamble in upcoming weeks after seeing what he’s capable of doing.

TE Tony Gonzalez, Kansas City Chiefs
Although he didn’t have a touchdown, Tony Gonzalez continues to prove he’s a fantasy football powerhouse right now. He’s undoubtedly the best fantasy tight end and should head into the 2009 fantasy football season as a top three tight end — even though he’s no longer a spring chicken.

Best Starters for Week 13 – Fantasy Football

QB Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
Tony Romo has a good matchup against the Seattle Seahawks on Thanksgiving and should be able to put up a very productive fantasy football line. He’s as healthy as he’s been since returning from his broken pinkie and his wide receivers are playing well. At least 250 yards and two touchdowns is what you should expect.

RB Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings
In four out of his last five games, Adrian Peterson has at least one touchdown. That bodes well for his Week 13 game against the Chicago Bears. While the Bears have a solid defense, it isn’t as good as it has been in years past. Peterson will be able to run for at least 80 yards and a touchdown.

WR Anquan Boldin, Arizona Cardinals
There isn’t a hotter fantasy football wide receiver than Anquan Boldin. He’s been a monster when healthy this season. Although he missed a few games due to facial fractures, he hasn’t lost a beat since coming back. Expect at least eight catches, for 95 yards and a touchdown this week against the Philadelphia Eagles.

TE Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers
With a very nice matchup this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons, Antonio Gates is a must start. Gates should get a touchdown this week as the young Falcons aren’t quite equipped to shut down this pass catching tight end. In fantasy football, there isn’t a better tight end start in Week 13 than Gates.

Best Fantasy Football Starters in Week 7

QB Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts
Last week, Peyton Manning finally looked like Peyton Manning. The Colts quarterback had by far his best game. His struggles earlier in the season could very well be chalked up to the multiple knee surgeries he had in the offseason. Expect Manning to continue his good play in Week 7.

RB Marion Barber III, Dallas Cowboys
Going against the St. Louis Rams, Marion Barber III should get a whole lot of work. No matter if Tony Romo or Brad Johnson starts at quarterback, Barber will be called upon to keep the pressure of the QB. This is a week that Barber could easily finish the game with two or three touchdowns.

WR Andre Johnson, Houston Texans
After blowing up in Week 6, Andre Johnson should be able to carry it over into Week 7. The Lions have been very poor against the pass and Johnson is one of the most talented receivers in the entire NFL. If he can have a big game, Johnson should emerge as a top five fantasy wide receiver from here on out.

TE Chris Cooley, Washington Redskins
The Redskins will try to bounce back after their shocking Week 6 loss. Chris Cooley will be a big part of their offensive attack against the Cleveland Browns. Cooley has had an inconsistent fantasy football season, but he should be able to put up plenty of numbers this week.

Week 7 Waiver Wire Pickups 2008

QB Brad Johnson, Dallas Cowboys
If Tony Romo misses any action, Brad Johnson should be able to fill in decently enough. Against a poor defense, Johnson is a good start even at his old age due to all the offensive weapons at his disposal. However, be aware that Romo is necessarily out for Week 7 so you should still follow that storyline closely.

RB Dominic Rhodes, Indianapolis Colts
With Joseph Addai out approximately 2-to-4 weeks, Dominic Rhodes will step into a starter’s role. Although he isn’t as good as Addai, Rhodes runs hard and should be able to produce. He’s a decent RB2 until Addai returns. Pick him up if he’s available in your league.

WR Shaun McDonald, Detroit Lions
Now that Roy Williams is a member of the Cowboys, Shaun McDonald is expected to start at wide receiver. While he’s not a great receiver, he showed that he has fantasy potential last year. Don’t start him on your fantasy football team right away but he’s a sleeper that could blossom later in the year.

TE Billy Miller, New Orleans Saints
If Jeremy Shockey misses another week, consider picking up and starting Billy Miller. Miller is getting a good amount of looks from Drew Brees and has performed pretty well. Another week in the starting lineup could spell a big day and perhaps a touchdown for Miller.

Top Fantasy Players in Week 6 2008

QB Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys
Although the Cowboys had a tough loss against the Arizona Cardinals, quarterback Tony Romo had a good day fantasy football wise. He had 321 yards and three touchdowns, including a late 70-yard connection with running back Marion Barber III.

RB Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars
Early in the game, Fred Taylor got shaken up and ended up missing most of the contest. Maurice Jones-Drew stepped in and filled in admirably, as he finished with 148 yards and two touchdowns. When given a healthy amount of touches, Jones-Drew is as deadly as any fantasy running back in the NFL.

WR Andre Johnson, Houston Texans
Andre Johnson is separating himself as one of the best wide receivers in the fantasy world. After a breakout game in Week 5, he backed that up with another great showing in Week 6. Johnson finished the game with 178 yards and a touchdown.

TE Marcedes Lewis, Jacksonville Jaguars
Even though Marcedes Lewis has had a very quiet season to date, many scouts continue to think he is a vastly talented tight end. He showed some of his potential in Week 6 with his 64 yards and a touchdown for the Jaguars.

K Jason Elam, Atlanta Falcons
When Jason Elam left the Denver Broncos for the Falcons, many fantasy football owners thought he’d be in for a tough 2008 campaign. However, Elam has been very good so far this year. In Week 6, he had five field goals including the game winner against the Chicago Bears.
