According to multiple rumors, the Charlotte Bobcats and the New Orleans Hornets are discussing a deal that would swap centers Emeka Okafor and Tyson Chandler. While the deal isn’t done yet, sources indicate that the two teams have been talking for at least a few days about such a move.

For fantasy basketball purposes, this would be very good news for Emeka Okafor. While he seems to have hit a production ceiling with the Bobcats, he could become a much more efficient player if put next to Chris Paul. As we’ve seen with Chandler, Paul is very good at setting up easy shots for his bigmen.

On the other hand, Chandler going to the Bobcats would rob practically his entire fantasy basketball value. Considering that Chandler is trying to overcome a couple of injuries and recently failed an NBA physical, he likely wouldn’t be worth drafting in fantasy basketball if this trade goes through.

If the Bobcats make this move, it’ll likely be due to economics. Chandler has much less money left on his deal compared to Okafor.

After leading the New Orleans Hornets to a game seven against the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Semi-Finals, Byron Scott is going to be rewarded with a new contract extension. While he hasn’t officially signed the extension yet, that appears to be just a formality at this point.

Scott, who was named the 2007-08 NBA Coach of the Year, did a wonderful job with the Hornets. He gave Chris Paul room to grow and do whatever he wanted offensively. Paul responded by finishing second in the MVP voting behind Kobe Bryant. Other players on the team, such as David West, Tyson Chandler and Peja Stojakovic, also seem to respond well to Scott’s coaching.

In fantasy basketball, this is good news for the starting lineup of the Hornets. Paul, West, Chandler, Stojakovic and Morris Peterson should continue to get substantial playing time going forward. Not only that, their production should at worst remain the same.

However, Scott has never been known to be especially kind to his bench players. This year was no different, as Scott often publicly complained about the lack of production from his bench. While bench players Julian Wright and Jannero Pargo seem to have good futures, it’s tough to tell how Scott will feel about his bench from day to day.

For Hornets fans in New Orleans, this is very good news. The Hornets now appear ready to become a legit championship contender for many years to come.

The Hornets, who lead the defending champion Spurs 3-2 in their best out of seven series, will look to eliminate the Spurs in San Antonio on Thursday. The Spurs, on the other hand, will be trying to force a seventh game.

David West also suffered a minor injury during Game 5. West suffered tightness in his back, but didn’t see limited on the court and was able to keep playing. West finished Game 5 with 38 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and five blocks. Despite his slight injury, West will also definitely play in Game 6.

With the news that Dennis Rodman was arrested once again, now is as good a time as any to look at who the best rebounders were in the 2007-08 season.
1. Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic
With an average of 14.2 rebounds per game, Dwight Howard was far and away the best rebounder in the NBA. At 22, Howard’s rebounding numbers should continue to rise over the next few years.

2. Marcus Camby, Denver Nuggets
Not only does Marcus Camby block shots, he’s an elite rebounder. He averaged 13.1 rebounds per game and consistently rebounded all season. Camby also stayed healthy, which in itself was very good to see.

3. Tyson Chandler, New Orleans Hornets
This former Baby Bull is now all grown up. As a member of the Hornets, Chandler is now playing great basketball. He can block shots, rebound and shoots for a high percentage offensively.

4. Tim Duncan, San Antonio Spurs
While Tim Duncan doesn’t play a huge amount of minutes anymore, he still is a great rebounder. Duncan is good at a lot things on the basketball court, however rebounding might be his most dominating aspect in the fantasy world.

5. Al Jefferson, Minnesota Timberwolves
When the Wolves traded for Al Jefferson, they knew they were getting a low post scorer and a very capable rebounder. Jefferson didn’t disappoint in either aspect. He has a chance to be a league-leader in rebounds for many years to come.
