1) Louie Sakoda, Utah
Not only is Louie Sakoda a very talented kicker, he has a chance to also become a punter on the NFL level. If he can successfully handle both kicking duties on the professional level, he’d be a very valuable player and could warrant a relatively high draft pick.
2) Graham Gano, Florida St.
A nice thing about Graham Gano is that he’s already faced a lot of pressure in his football career. At Florida St., virtually every kick was under some sort of pressure. He held up well in college and showed NFL potential.
3) Sam Swank, Wake Forest
In recent years, Wake Forest has authored a few surprising victories. The reason? Sam Swank was a very reliable kicker and helped the offense make good decisions. His strong leg gave the coaches a lot of options on their side of the field.
4) Swayze Waters, UAB
Not only does Swayze Waters have a cool name, he’s a heck of a kicking prospect as well. His accurate and strong leg makes him a definite kicking prospect in April’s 2009 NFL Draft. However, some scouts may wonder about the jump he’d have to make from UAB to the NFL.
5) Jose Martinez, UTEP
Many NFL scouts insist that Jose Martinez may very well be the best kicker in the entire class. Based on his potential and consistent kicking up to this point, many scouts like what they see. That said, workouts prior to the draft will tell the story about whether or not Martinez is draftable.
