While the trade was relatively minor, Troy Williams from the Minnesota Vikings to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a draft pick is at least notable in the fantasy football world. While Williamson never came close to living up to expectations for the Vikings, he’ll get a fresh start with the Jaguars.
The Jaguars have yet to fully recover from Jimmy Smith’s retirement before the start of the 2006 season. While they have great size at the position, they haven’t really had a legitimate deep ball threat. Williamson can be that deep ball threat for Jacksonville.
David Garrard showed he’s a very capable NFL quarterback last year and he can throw the long ball with ease. Whether Williamson will be one of the receivers looking to catch those passes isn’t 100% certain yet. He’ll have to make the team and then even at that point, to be relevant in fantasy football, Williamson will need to win a starting spot.
While that’s a longshot at this point, Williamson has the talent and the skillset to be what the Jaguars have long been looking for in a wide receiver.
