2008 Western Conference Going to Game 6

Detroit Red Wings vs Dallas Stars Game 5 Conference Finals The 2008 Western Conference Finals got a whole lot more interesting last night after the Dallas Stars battled almost to the death to remain in the playoffs.  Stars goaltender, Marty Turco was spectacular, turning away all but one of the 39 shots on goal and standing on his head for most of the game.  It’s a relief considering how disappointing his play had been until Game 4 in this series.  Wings netminder, Chris Osgood, was decent but the Stars failed to test him as much as they should have (the win really needs to be credited to Turco since the Stars took a measly 21 shots on goal).

Trevor Daley (Stars) opened scoring at 09:21 in the first.  The goal was answered by Jiri Hudler (Wings) on a power-play at 15:30.  Joel Lundqvist (Stars) netted the game-winner at 06:04 in the second and the Stars hung on through the third.

I am thrilled by this turn of events but I have to admit to being more than a little shocked (pleasantly surprised, really).   It’s going to be an interesting game on Monday!
