Crosby Undisclosed Injury May be Sore Hip

crosby

Pittsburgh Penguins superstar, Sidney Crosby, raised questions after leaving during the game against the Phoenix Coyotes yesterday.

When asked about it afterwards he replied, “Honestly, I don’t even know what happened; I’d have to look at the tape. I just had some discomfort. I just decided in the third period I couldn’t do much.”

Spokesperson, Frank Buonomo, also wouldn’t give any hints, but no one is sure whether or not Sidney will be able to play against the St. Louis Blues tomorrow night. It all depends on how he’s doing the day of the game.

Explanations about it have not been clear, but recent reports claim that Sidney is recovering from a hip injury.

Hopefully Sid will be feeling better tomorrow. I’m sure the team is looking to redeem themselves after their 4-1 loss.

Ducks Win in Overtime Against Red Wings

ducks_wingsFrancois Beauchemin scored in overtime against the Detroit Red Wings, yesterday, handing his team a 5-4 home victory.

Teemu Selanne earned his 21st hat trick, scoring once in each period. The Wings made 38 shots on net and the ducks followed close behind with 34 shots.

The three stars of the night were none other than the usual suspects. Ryan Getzlaf was named third star of the night after getting five assists! Incredible! Detroit’s Pavel Datsyuk stole second star by scoring two goals last night, and of course, Selanne was crowned number one star by getting a hat trick.

Stars Break Wild Winning Streak

stars_wildTobias Stephan made 19 saves and earned his first NHL win after leading the Dallas Stars to a 4-2 victory last night, giving the Minnesota Wild their first loss of the season.

Stephan redeemed himself last night, trying to forget the loss of his last NHL game. In 2007, he was put in net against Chicago and appeared to be leading the team to a shutout win. The Wild were ahead by one point but with 1.5 seconds left, the Blackhawks scored leading the game to overtime. Unfortunately, the Stars lost the game.

It’s great that he was given a second chance and was able to win the game. Congrats to Tobias for getting his first win in the NHL!

Flames Get Fourth Straight, Kiprusoff 150th Win

Colorado Avalanche @ Calgary Flames – October 28, 2008

flames beat avsCurtis Glencross got his first goal as a member of the Calgary Flames last night but it was goaltender, Miikka Kiprusoff who stole the show – not only did he get his 27th career shutout (1st this season!) but he also celebrated his 150th win with the team.

The teams battled hard last night, remaining tied going into the third but once Glencross got the ball rolling, two more goals followed, ruining the Colorado Avalanche’s stellar performance (particularly goaltender Peter Budaj).  Here is the scoring summary:

CGY: Glencross, C. (08:22 in 3rd), Bourque, R. (12:58 in 3rd), Cammalleri, M. (15:03 in 3rd)

Canadiens Take Shootout Win Over Canes

Carolina Hurricanes @ Montreal Canadiens – October 28, 2008

Habs Beat Canes The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in a shootout last night with Habs captain, Saku Koivu, netting the game-winner.

I have to take the opportunity, again, to mention how well Alex Tanguay (Montreal) is doing – he has 9 points (6 goals, 3 assists) in 8 games.  This is a player that the stupid Colorado Avalanche didn’t want because they said he didn’t score enough, I think the Calgary Flames management must have had similar thoughts and I have never understood it.  Alex is an AMAZING passer, a decent goal-scorer and an excellent skater.  Why any team would give him up is beyond me but I really hope the Habs do well enough for him to turn around to the Avs and Flames and tell them all to eat it.

Lecavalier Leads Bolts Past Maple Leafs

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Toronto Maple Leafs – October 28, 2008

lightning strikes toronto

Vincent Lecavalier did what a good captain should do – he led his team to a victory in a very close game.  Within two minutes of each other, Jussi Jokinen (Tampa Bay Lightning) and Matt Stajan (Toronto Maple Leafs) scored a goal for their teams but then Vinny locked the game up with a pair (one in the 1st, the other in the second period) and sealed the deal.  Here’s the scoring summary:

Flyers Destroy Thrashers With 7-0 Win

Philadelphia Flyers @ Atlanta Thrashers – October 28, 2008

flyers thrash atlanta WOW.  What else can you really say?  Well, I guess you can say that, for some reason, the Atlanta Thrashers seem to just fall apart when they have to play against the Philadelphia Flyers… It was a nightmare of a game for any Atlanta fan to watch their team not only get beat but shut out with a score of 7-0.  Let me say it again – WOW…  Here is the scoring summary:

San Jose Sharks Edge Pittsburgh Penguins

San Jose @ Pittsburgh – October 28, 2008

san jose beat pittsburgh The San Jose Sharks opened scoring with a short-handed goal (Joe Pavelski) in the first period followed by a great back-hand goal by Mike Grier.  When the Pittsburgh Penguins did score in the third, it looked like Sharks goaltender, Evgeni Nabakov was off-balance and never quite recovered in time to make the save.  Here is the scoring summary:
