2009 NHL All-Star Game Lineup Announced

The starting lineup for the 2009 NHL All-Star Game has been announced and I’m relatively happy with the list. I would have liked to see more Calgary
Flames there but I can understand these choices. I also wish Alex Tanguay (Montreal Canadiens) would be playing but, after getting injured, he was forced to bow out. I’m crushed. At least four other Habs will be in the lineup to represent!
Anyway, I love the All-Star Game because it’s just a lot of good fun and it’s a nice way to get to know players that you don’t get to see too often. The game will take place on January 25, 2009 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
Eastern Conference
- Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins)– No big surprise here. He is the single-season leader in All-Star votes and I’m looking forward to seeing him play since he missed last year’s game with an ankle injury.
- Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh Penguins)
- Alexei Kovalev (Montreal Canadiens) – he’s one of the few healthy Habs left so I hope he stays that way. Since Saku Koivu got injured, Kovalev has been acting as captain.
- Andrei Markov (Montreal Canadiens)
- Mike Komisarek (Montreal Canadiens)
- Carey Price (Montreal Canadiens) – he’s been out a while with injury so I’m hoping he doesn’t play if he doesn’t feel healthy enough. The All-Star Game is great but not worth messing up your chances of helping your team make the playoffs.
Western Conference
- Patrick Kane (Chicago Blackhawks) – he’s doing great in his second season (16 goals, 41 points in 35 games!) in the NHL and I’m really looking forward to seeing him in action!
- Jonathan Toews (Chicago Blackhawks) – again, I can’t wait to see him and Kane play together since there aren’t many Chicago games broadcast in my area.
- Ryan Getzlaf (Anaheim Ducks)
- Brian Campbell (Chicago Blackhawks)
- Scott Niedermayer (Anaheim Ducks) – can you believe this? Almost retires and then ends up in the starting lineup of the All-Star Game!
- Jean-Sebastien Giguere (Anaheim Ducks) – good choice, I think. Should be interesting to see him face off against Price.

This lineup is a farce – pure ballot stuffing by fans in the 4 cities – Ovechkin? The Red Wings, Sharks, each have at least one star better than 4 of the 6 named in each conference. Get real – And I’m a lifelong fan going back to the original six – Bettman and the governors need to be replaced – get real hockey people managing and promoting the game
I agree with Rick ^ Sure, people love Montreal, but come on. We’re supposed to have different people from different teams. Ovechkin? One of the best choices for the All-Stars. He’s (to date of Jan. 9) 10 points away from Malkin and just a tiny bit ahead of Crosby. What I find is a shame is that Luongo hasn’t recovered from his long injury and WASN’T voted the most. He’s an extremely amazing player (not only because I’m a Canucks fan) and would help the West GREATLY. I believe Crosby and Malkin won’t “buddy buddy” with the Canadiens, they don’t seem like a good team. And Scott Niedermayer? Are you kidding me? The man with 24 points? I’m extremely disappointed. Not only that, but disgusted. With the except with a few good players, the rest is terrible. Expect me to watch the final quarter of the game, because its not worth wasting my time watching it.
although tnt put it a little harsh his point is very valid montreal fans are pretty gay the all star game is meant to be fun and exciting and watching montrel isnt either of those things (habs suck)
Pure Queerism coming from a know-all fan Hahahahha
get back in the closet

How can habs suck if their history is different from your queer coment
stuff the box a little more u fucking pussies
Guys, I’m no fan of the Canadiens, but have some pride and congratulate them for the opportunity to be in the All-Stars. Habs are playing a good season. Yes, it is stuffed, but there’s no need to fly off the handle. personally, I was disappointed on the fact that Ovechkin wasn’t in. Neither was one of the Sedin brothers.
I am from montreal but I am a bruins fan, I agree that this is a joke, there are more deserving players then Alexei Kovalev, Mike Komisarek, and Carey Price, Markov is the only one that dserves to be there, this is ruining the allstar game….
I think The Habs Suck Shit And I Hate To Say It But They Are Doing Good This Year…
Well, the game will be intresting to watch, but sadly, east will have to pull off a really good game to win. All it is is just the West playing Crosby, Malkin and the Canadians. The Canadians suck, and Crosby and Malkin are doing great this year, but we will have to rely on them to win this. And the penguins in 10th place in the Eastern confrence so all the teams knows how to beat them… So we need more variaty.
What’s with all the Montreal players in the all star game. Come on what is this ..the line-up sucks big time. One player from Toronto? oh and of course Iginla would be there..whoever created this catastrophie should be fired, just like my leafs coach who continually puts down the team HE coaches..I grow weary of Gary Bettman’s stupid allowances and choices. hey if yer listen Gary..can you put a good word in for Barry Melrose and send him to my leafs to coach?
Anything would be better then the hitler that is there now..harsh words? well if we are going to get back to winning, someone’s got to say it.
All i have to say is that the habs blow and they should not have any of their players in there except markov. And I can think fo about 9 goalies who are better than giguere, what were people thinking?!?!?!?!?
I AGREE WITH EVERYONE, THE HABS SUCK!!! WHERE ARE THE REAL PLAYERS? WHERE ARE THE SHARKS, THE RED WINGS, THE BRUINS??? THE FACT THAT PATRIC MARLEAU WASNT INVITED TO THE ALL-STARS TILL LATER ON IS FUCKING REDICULOUS!!!
Karen Hart is a moron. Are you actually stupid enough to say oh and of course Iginla would be there and then cry about the fact that only one player from Toronto is going to be there? Iginla doesnt deserve to be in the all-star game this year.. but in no way shape or form has a player from Toronto deserved to be in it in years. Shut yerrr mouth
ya dont know what yer talking about justin..anytime you want to know a little more about hockey, let me know eh..
Um… Habs suck? Im sorry Toronto fans but your team Blows… like TORONTO deserves more players than the habs… this is just laughable… Makeme Laffs Blow… while I agree there are better players out there than Komisarek, alot of idiots need their heads removed from their asses… 1 in the East Last year and doing even better THIS year (pointswise) you’re all just pathetic
True in a sense..my leafs are not doing well..is it any wonder..you see bryan burke upstairs..looks like he is doing crosswords and ron wilson got the reins..and he is the worst coach around..no matter how bad your team is you are half to blame and he comes out and says after just one period..”we just don’t have a good team”.
change the coach..wake up the GM…i feel bad for poor cliff fletcher…
As for the all star game..should be somewhat equal..5 habs..gimme a break..
over all it should still be an interesting weekend..
ya here that bryan burke..wake up and see whats happening around you.
you give me a headache..
Stop doing the little .. two periods there. it’s really annoying…
sorry nate..
Win tonight Leafs Win!!!
