2009 NHL Winter Classic Will Be in Chicago

wrigley fieldNext season’s Winter Classic will be held on January 1, 2009 at Wrigley Field where host team, the Chicago Blackhawks, will face off against the Detroit Red Wings.  “We expect interest to be on an international level for this once-in-a-lifetime event,” Blackhawks chairman Rocky Wirtz said.

Well, at least it went to a “hockey city.”  I’m not going to name names but it would have sucked if it went someplace where there is not a good fan base.

Last year’s Winter Classic was between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres drew an NHL record 71,217 fans to Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo.
