Washington Capitals star, Alexander Ovechkin, has returned to his team after taking time off to rush to the bedside of his ailing grandfather back in Russia.  He has started practicing with the team and said “I just want to go right now on the ice and play hockey. I’m so happy right now I’m skating with my teammates.”  He seemed really grateful that team management allowed him to take that time away without any real problems: “It shows you how good people (they are) here – how they love me, how they respect me and how they respect my family,” Ovechkin said.

In the end, Ovechkin just missed a couple games while he was away but it did end his 203 consecutive games played streak.
