Milan Lucic has suffered a high ankle sprain that has left him unable to play since November 25th and now it’s being announced that he will be on the injured reserve list for four weeks. image: TSN This is a bad season for Lucic.  A fractured finger kept him off the ice for 14 games and he ended up having surgery in October and now this.  He has played 10 games and posted just two goals and three assists. In the meantime, Andy Wozniewski and Adam McQuaid have been called up from the AHL. [Read more]

Habs Trying to Give Halak to the Flyers

I’m pretty disappointed to learn that the Montreal Canadiens are trying to pawn goaltender, Jaroslav Halak, off on the Philadelphia Flyers. I am not shocked, of course, since Montreal has a history of dumping good players. image: TSN Sure, Halak isn’t a #1 goalie but he has potential and I think he’s a very worthy backup to Carey Price.  In fact, he was compensating so much for the struggling netminder that even Price said that he wanted Halak in net. Now that Halak has said that he wants to play more, Montreal GM Bob Gainey has offered him to the Flyers.  They could use someone since Ray Emery is out of commission after suffering an abdominal tear. Halak had this to say: “I’m a young goalie, and Carey (Price) is a young... [Read more]

Cool Gift Idea: Hockey Stick Putter

Do you, or someone that you know, like both hockey and golf?  If so, you might want to check out the Hockey Stick Putter.  It’s basically what it sounds like – a golf putter that looks like a hockey stick. I know that some novelty items are pretty cheap but this one is finely-tuned with precise weighting since it features a compression molded graphite shaft with a cast aluminum alloy head.  It’s cool because a former Division I hockey player designed it to be useable on the golf course instead of just being something that is displayed on a wall in his house. The one pictured above is obviously for a Calgary Flames fan (like me!) but you can get them for any NHL team.  The putters cost $115 and come with a moisture proof putter grip... [Read more]

Chelios Turns Down NHL Offer, Staying in AHL!

Wow!  This one surprised me.  Chris Chelios has been playing in the AHL for the Chicago Wolves but the star player, who will turn 48 next month, has revealed that he turned down a chance to return to the NHL almost two weeks ago in favor of staying in the lower level league. TSN had some interesting quotes: "It would have to take a pretty unique situation (to sign with an NHL team).  Not to say I’d be picking and choosing, but I think I’m in a really great situation in Chicago here. It’s much better to be one of the top four defencemen here than it would be to be a seventh defenceman in the NHL.  People might think you’re crazy to say that, but I really do enjoy myself playing here." "You’ve... [Read more]

Bruins Take Lead in Northeast Division

It’s beginning to look a lot like last season.  The Boston Bruins took over first place in the Northeast Division after their 5-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs last night.  The Bruins have improved to 8-1-1 in the last 10 games. image: TSN Tuukka Rask continues to shine and stopped 32 shots for Boston in the win and Mark Recchi scored TWICE in the final three minutes!  Mark Stuart, Derek Morris and David Krejci also cored for the Bruins. [Read more]
