Blackhawks Name Toews New Captain!

Jonathan Toews WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!  The Chicago Blackhawks have named Jonathan Toews their captain for the upcoming season.  This would make the centre (who just finished his rookie season) the third-younges player to ever be named the leader of an NHL team!  The two other baby cap’ns have been Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh) and Vincent Lecavalier (Tampa Bay).

”Jonathan deserves this honor, he is a tremendous individual and a wonderful leader on and off the ice,” general manager Dale Tallon said. ”He has experience in captaining teams from his World Junior appearances and guys follow his lead in our locker room.”

Toews was Chicago’s first choice in the 2006 NHL Draft (3rd overall) and had an incredible season despite getting injured.  He notched 24 goals (best among rookies) and 54 points (third).

You may also remember that Toews was part of the gold medal-winning team when Canada won the 2007 World Junior Championships.
