Calgary Flames Make Crafts With Sick Kids

Players from the Calgary Flames hockey club helped to make the season a little brighter for the children at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.  They brought teddy bears and made crafts with these children who, unfortunately, can’t be home with their families for the holidays.

One little girl, Kayley Jaycock, has been in the hospital for the past two weeks due to a degenerative hip disorder.  She’s had to have 5 surgeries in the past 14 months.  Hopefully, spending time with goalie, Miikka Kiprusoff, brought her a little cheer (I know it would make me very happy).  They worked together decorating some Christmas cards (pictured above).

"I’m just helping out with the glue. That’s what I’m allowed to do," said Kiprusoff, as Kayley smiled shyly for the cameras.

"They’re just coming off a big road trip. They don’t get to spend a lot of time with their families and their time always seems to be used up," said Randy Jaycock, Kayley’s father.

"It’s great that they make time to come to the hospital to visit these kids because it really lifts a lot of their spirits."

"It’s tougher than it looks," admitted Flames defenceman Dion Phaneuf as he helped paint ornaments.

"It puts everything in perspective of how lucky we are and especially in what we do to be able to bring smiles to these kids’ faces over the holidays. It’s nice to be able to do that."

That was an incredibly nice gesture, especially during a time when I’m sure they’d love to be at home with their own families.  Plus, it can be hard to make arts and crafts sometimes.  I have to do a lot of faking with my own kids :)
