Willie MitchellVancouver Canucks defenseman Willie Mitchell has been indefinitely knocked out of the lineup with a broken vertebra in his back.  The hockey club has recalled defenseman Nathan McIver from the AHL.

Mitchell has missed the last three games (even though he played through nine games with the injury!!!) but has skated on his own over the last two days.

“It is a fracture so it is bone and bone does take a little while, but that said all hockey players have played through a little bit of pain in our careers,” Mitchell said. “You want to be smart about it, not stupid. … A little bit of discomfort is all right, but not the acute pain I had at the end.”

Well, I think playing for nine games with a fractured vertebra is a little on the risky side but I’m not a licensed physician or anything…
