May 17, 2007; Detroit Red Wings Chris Chelios celebrates a goal during Game 3 of the Western Conference finals between the Detroit Red Wings and the Anaheim Ducks at The Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. The Ducks won 5-3.Come on, now.  You knew Chris Chelios couldn’t resist coming back for more.  This is going to be his 25th NHL season.  Why not go out on a nice, round number?

The 46-year-old veteran defenceman will be dressing for the Detroit Red Wings – again – and I’m sure he’s hoping to cap the year with another Stanley Cup victory.  He will be taking on a lesser role, however, so that he can give the young defencemen room to improve their game.

Well, when you look at NFL quarterback Brett Favre and Olympic swimmer Dara Torres, it’s clear that what we used to consider the age of retirement is no longer the case.
