CTV Acquires Rights to Hockey Theme Song

WOW!!!!  I’m away at the Banff World Television Festival but I had to log on and blog about CTV (many of the execs are here, ironically) acquiring the rights to the Hockey Night in Canada theme song.  Apparently, the CBC made a last-ditch effort to secure the tune but I’m guessing it was either not enough or too late.  Well, I guess I shouldn’t call it that anymore but I just had to discuss this development.  I’m a little crushed.  I’m happy that the song will live on but if it’s not on HNIC, it’s going to feel wrong…

What do you think of this?

    Dolores, you screwed Canada!

CTV stole the HNIC theme from CBC?
Well, I will save you the trouble of reading the expletives that come to mind.
    CTV is dead to me.
    TSN is dead to me.

Wow what a poor decision not to pay them what they wanted for the HNIC theme song. All TSN needs now is Ron McClean and a few CBC announcers and than CBC will be completley useless. It just goes to show what a joke our national television station is. A true Canadian would have faught for this, to the point where fighting for it wasnt neccesssary.
Thankfully they don’t have to bid on our flag!
I’ll be giving TSN a chance, they are making strides and it won’t be long until they catch up to CBC in quality. To all my fellow Canadians… we now have one less thing in common together keeping us unified, speak out and show your lack of support with their choice.

Good to see that I am not the only one disgusted by this…

I too am upset over the thought of not hearing that theme song come on at the beginning of HNIC. It goes to show you how big business and money are what matters, not tradition or heritage. Way to drop the ball CBC.
