Dallas Stars Give Ribeiro $25M Extension!

Mike Ribeiro whiffs on a penalty shot in Monday's 3-1 win over the Wild. The Dallas Stars have given forward, Mike Ribeiro, a five-year contract extension worth $25 million US!!!  That’s some good money – especially when you look at his current salary.  Right now, Ribeiro is making $1.8 million a year and would have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2008.  Under his new contract, his pay bumps up to $5 million a year (if only we could all get that kind of raise, huh?).

"Mike has made a big impact on our hockey club the past two seasons, and we are very happy to have him under contract," Stars co-general manager Brett Hull said in a statement.

Ribeiro, 27, leads the Stars with 21 goals on just 58 shots and 46 points in 41 games this season.

"He makes things happen on the ice and will only continue to grow as a player," Hull said of Ribeiro.

That really is an impressive start to the year and I’m glad he’s being rewarded.
