In the nick of time, the Dallas Stars woke up and decided to actually play hockey during last night’s game against the Detroit Red Wings. I can’t blame the Wings for being stunned (or so it looked to me) to actually have to skate because I had all but prepared myself for a sweep. The 2008 Western Conference title is still up for grabs and I’m pretty happy about it.
It was a wild game - Tomas Holmstrom was deemed to be in the crease (there is NO WAY he was!) and the first goal of the night, scored by the Detroit Red Wings, was disallowed. Twelve minutes later, Loui Eriksson scored late in the second period for Dallas but was answered 49 seconds into the third by Detroit’s Henrik Zetterberg. Stars player, Mike Modano, tallied the game-winning goal on a power-play about five minutes later and captain, Brendan Morrow, sealed the deal with less than six minutes left in the game.
Marty Turco actually looked like himself, turning away 33 shots on goal. I don’t know if Dallas can remain perfect for the next three games but we’ll find out on Saturday.

Dallas and Philly are in almost exactly the same situation.
It’s not that their goalies have been “bad” per say, but they haven’t turned in the amazing performances that allowed their teams to get past two rounds they had no business winning. So it’s not really surprising what’s happened in the first three games in each series, but at the same time it looks like both series are going to be going to a fifth game.
Boooo! LOL. I wanted the Pens to just eliminate the Flyers and be done with it. No such luck.
It’s kind of eerie how similar these series are turning out to be.
Indeed it is. Although if Turco and Biron are ready to elevate their games again, we could have a very interesting week or so coming up.
