Darren McCarty on Waivers… Again

Darren McCarty

Veteran defenceman, Darren McCarty, have been placed on waivers by the Detroit Red Wings.  This is the second time (or more?) this has happened – he was first placed on waivers back in July, 2005.  He’s had a long on-again-off-again relationship with the Wings with whom he has played 11 seasons and won the Stanley Cup four times.

The 36-year-old has had a rough time these past few years.  I got to know him as a player when he played for the Calgary Flames (2005-2007) but then things went wrong there too – he kind of disappeared and it was revealed he was having some gambling and personal problems.  I was happy when I found out that Detroit was taking him back but I guess it’s just not working out.

I hope everything works out for him…
